Gilpin Lodge Country House

We stayed at the Birdoswald Spa Lodge, originally wanting to stay in Voreda, but it was already booked by some lucky scoundrels! The hotel itself is beautiful. It was actually smaller than I expected, but it is a nice upscale hotel and the service was amazing. They really do treat you like royalty when you stay there, and the staff were lovely. However, there were a few things that were a bit of a let down. The shower/steam room in the Birdoswald absolutely did stink. It smelled like damp, or possibly a giant troll had taken up residence in there. Honestly, it smelled like a troll's thigh. We were honestly too tired to complain about it while we were there, but it is definitely something I would suggest they look into, as it could easily disappoint future guests. The sauna could also have been a little hotter. It was nice, but for a proper sauna experience, I personally would have liked it to be hotter. The other thing for me was the price. We stayed at the end of July and paid around £900, and honestly, I don't think the value reflects what you are paying. Personally, I wouldn't pay more than £600 a night for the Spa Lodge. Anything above that just doesn't feel like good value for money. The room was lovely overall, but there were also a few scratches and signs of wear and tear in parts of the room. If you are going to charge prices like that, I think everything needs to be absolutely spot on and make you feel like you are getting your money's worth. The staff were great and provided excellent service. Maybe the lady at the front desk could try to sound less fake at times, lol, but she was still very pleasant and did provide excellent service. Would I stay here again? Probably, but only if I could get a fair price for it and the room type I actually wanted. It is a beautiful hotel, and you do feel very well looked after. I just think at around £900 a night, the experience needs to be pretty much flawless to justify the price.

We recently stayed at The Gilpin Hotel & Spa in Windermere to celebrate my wife’s 40th birthday, and from start to finish the experience was absolutely outstanding. From the moment we checked in, we were made to feel incredibly welcome. A special thank you to Daniel and Chris, who were both exceptional throughout our stay. They were warm, friendly, professional, and went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. They knew we were celebrating my wife’s 40th birthday and made every effort to make her feel truly special throughout our stay. Their genuine hospitality and attention to detail made the occasion even more memorable. We stayed in the Spa Suite (Room 30), which was simply incredible. It was beautifully presented and had every amenity you could possibly want for a relaxing spa weekend. Every detail had clearly been carefully thought through, making it the perfect place to unwind. The food was exceptional throughout our stay. Breakfast was delicious with an excellent choice, and dinner at The Source Restaurant was a real highlight. The quality of the food, presentation, and service were all first class. Every member of staff we encountered was attentive, friendly, and professional. We never wanted for a thing, and nothing was ever too much trouble. If you’re looking for a luxury getaway in the Lake District, I couldn’t recommend The Gilpin Hotel & Spa highly enough. Our stay exceeded every expectation, and thanks to the wonderful team, my wife’s 40th birthday was a celebration we’ll never forget. We left feeling completely relaxed and already looking forward to returning. Thank you to everyone for making our stay so memorable!
