We stayed at Elfordleigh Hotel and unfortunately the experience fell well below what we expected. From arrival, things were disappointing. There was little parking available, check-in was chaotic, and our room and bathroom were tired and dated. The staircase was dusty and covered in hair, which suggested it hadn’t been properly vacuumed. The spa was also a letdown. The changing rooms were flooded, someone was vaping in the changing room, and the steam room smelled unpleasant and had very little steam. The biggest issue was the lack of peace and quiet. On the first night there were conversations outside our room during the night, followed by a groundskeeper cutting the grass immediately outside the bedrooms at 6:20am. On the second night, there was persistent shouting and swearing, with children running around the landing between 1am and 2am. I don’t feel like we should have to police this ourselves. Surely someone working in the hotel must be aware of this. Breakfast was disappointing too. Menus advertised things like poached eggs and smoked salmon, but these weren’t available and it was instead a buffet. We were also asked to pay an additional £2 for a latte or cappuccino despite breakfast being included. The WiFi continuously dropped out throughout the stay, too. Taken individually, some of these issues might be minor. Taken together, they made for a very poor stay and certainly not the experience we expected. I raised a formal complaint with the hotel after the stay. They refunded 50% of the cost. Based on our experience, we wouldn’t choose to stay here again.

Such high hopes for our stay based on previous reviews but we were left disappointed. This is not a cheap place to stay and we felt the room and pool area really let us down. Room was tired and dated, many stains on the carpet, ripped headboard and crumbs everywhere. The bathroom was also very dirty with mould on the shower head and hair on the floor. Unfortunately the pool area is also very tired with missing tiles and black mould on a lot of the grout. For the price, we expected a clean room and better facilities. Both nights sleep were terrible, with guests running up and down the corridors until 3am (not the hotels fault) but we felt that the staff could have dealt with this better.
