The George Hotel

I’ve stayed at The George on numerous occasions since June for work and what a wonderful experience. Firstly Mark and the team are 1st class. They take the time to help, guide you on places to eat etc. Also happy to have a chat in the bar area, whilst somehow getting all done. When travelling alone for work it can be quite lonely but never at the George, thanks to all for making me feel so welcome. The rooms are spotlessly clean, and well appointed, to suit all needs, it is clear care and attention has gone into the rooms. The beds are super comfy. Unusually for me, I slept well here. The breakfast is cooked to order and excellent, always hot and never slow to arrive. Please don’t be put off that no evening meal is served, there are a number of good takeaways, the team are happy to suggest, in easy walking distance. Bring back to the George, they are happy to set you a table to enjoy your food in comfort. My time is over visiting for now, but I will definitely be back here when next in the area and have no hesitation in recommending. In this hot summer with the nearest services 40 minutes into a long drive, I’ve sometimes popped back before I set off on my journey home for a pot of tea, much better value and better quality than services, you can have a slice of cake too, again great value. On a practical note, parking in their car park is no problem when staying, just give the team your reg. To finish I’ve stayed in many hotels, chains and owner run, I’m struggling to think of one as overall excellent as this, thanks to Mark and the team, you have made my visits to South Molton a great experience. You will be missed.

A lovely summers day, we were looking forward to a light lunch. Sadly what we got were bacon and sausage rolls that were like bits of hard rubber. Try the tearooms instead… I wish we had listened to local recommendations.,

The George offers tasteful decor, great service & a lovely team of people. Excellent housekeeping standards, quality cooked breakfasts and rooms which feel like a home away from home. Comfortable bed,Smart TV, good wi-fi and strong electric shower. The whole operation is very well thought through and delivered perfectly . Convenient free parking at the rear of the hotel. Will definitely return. One small suggestion would be to make the latte, especially oat ones with milk only from the coffee machine beans. When mixing it with the filter coffee, it tastes bitter.
