I’ve just returned from a fabulous stay at this gorgeous guesthouse. Nestled amongst pretty terraced gardens on a peaceful, leafy lane just outside the town centre, it’s perfectly located for exploring Torquay and the area on foot or by public transport. There are bus stops in both directions at the end of the road, and the train station is just a 10 min walk away. Torquay centre is about a 20 min walk away. From the moment Lisa opened the door to welcome me, I felt completely at home. She was incredibly warm and welcoming, and I honestly felt as though I was staying at a friend’s home. Nothing was too much trouble, and she went above and beyond to make sure I had everything I needed. And then there were Christophe’s breakfasts - absolutely amazing! There was so much choice, everything was beautifully presented, and I can honestly recommend it all. I stayed in the Compact Double room which was spacious, light and airy, and overlooked the swimming pool. It was spotlessly clean and I was grateful for the thoughtful touches such as a fresh bottle of water daily, and fresh milk popped in the mini-fridge should you wish for it. I would highly recommend this lovely guesthouse to anyone looking for a peaceful, welcoming and relaxing place to stay in Torquay. I couldn’t have asked for a better stay ✨

We booked here in January for a short family (with the dog) break for August. We had heard of all the good reviews and safe to say we were not dissapointed in the slightest. Starting off with location it was perfect. Short scenic beautiful walk into Torquay or into the picturesque village of Cockington via the Meadows. Also located centrally if you desire to drive elsewhere. Lisa the owner was nothing short of brilliant. From the communication, to the local knowledge, to her bubbly outgoing personality - she made the stay super convenient for us. As for our room we had a front garden room which was ideal for our small dog. The room was clean, had everything you need, and was regularly topped up with essentials. Breakfast had a great selection which was all freshly made to order thanks to Kristoph. I opted for the pancakes and they were great. There was a selection of homemade jams which we couldn’t get enough off as well as cereals and juices. The full English which my parents got were great, with the food being sourced locally. Overall we had a fantastic stay, and if we are ever back in the area we will 100% stay here and continue to recommend it.

We have had a great 3 night break at this wonderful B and B. Lisa and Christophe are excellent hosts. Nothing is too much trouble for them. There is so much choice at breakfast, all very good quality food and plentiful. The Charterhouse is located between Torquay and Paignton and quite close to the village of Cockington. We have been returning to the Charterhouse as a couple and with family since 2009. All are well catered for, adults and children alike.
