The Royal Yacht

The hotel is located in the heart of tourist st helier. The rooms and staff are very good. The breakfast buffet is very good. Beware of an overly complex web reservation site. We thought we were booking one grade of room, superior queen with balcony facing the side , and found we were actually getting a room with an inside room facing another room across a small courtyard and no outside space. Resulting in a rather large up charge to get a room with a balcony.

What a pity, it was so promising but then reality intervened. Several serving staff at the Zephyr restaurant had something of an attitude and thought it acceptable to blank me when trying to attract their attention to add to my order. Once the order had been placed it took an age to arrive and with no comment. Then the bathroom and its truly ridiculous shower. Three controls, several horizontal jets and the usual rain shower and hand wand. No instructions and water coming from all directions. A wonderful example of form over function. Just provide a shower that 99% of the population would recognise and be able to operate without any issues.

What makes a place. What do You remember from a Hotel. My answer is the people. The smiles and real genuine friendliness is what makes The Royal Yacht a good place to be, and stay. + also for location, food, spa and atmosphere. I broke a vase at the room. The staff handled it very professionally. As a hotel and restaurant consultant i always see things i would change and train on. Wine pairings, technique, cocktail details etc. At The Royal Yacht the people working there made me relax and enjoy. And that is what it really is about. Will be back, and maybe i bring with me a new vase? Thanks to the staff.
