The Grosvenor Arms

We had a great stay at the Grosvenor Arms. The staff were friendly, welcoming and incredibly helpful. It’s in a great location, in the high street and within easy reach of several shops, pubs and cafes. Although the hotel doesn’t have parking, there are a few local car parks within a couple of minutes walk - and the hotel refund you for up to £6 per day parking, which was a nice touch. The room was spacious and comfortable. Breakfast was delicious, plenty of choice for both cold and hot options. In the week leading up to our stay, our friend sadly experienced a family emergency and her father passed away. Dan showed great compassion and understanding and, alongside the manager, kindly offered her a full refund. This was hugely appreciated during such a difficult time and meant a great deal to us. I’d definitely recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to visit Shaftesbury!

The Grosvenor is a lovely hotel, centrally situated in a really attractive town, and we thoroughly enjoyed our two night stay, except for an issue with an uncomfortable mattress. This was a twin room so only one bed was affected and my husband slept very well. But we pointed it out and I have every confidence that it will be dealt with and no more guests will experience the same problem. The room, number 16 on the second floor, was very spacious and well equipped but there are 54 steps to get to it (and of course 5r4 to leave it again) so you have to be careful not to leave anything you might need during the day in your room when you go out. However we looked on it as a challenge and a way of burning off a calories or two. The hotel has a couple of small lounges where you can have a quiet drink or even a meal, and an open courtyard leading off a conservatory so there are always places to sit, the bar is big and buzzy and the dining room is very pleasant. We enjoyed both evening meals and both breakfasts too. The Flat Iron steaks that we both had were delicious and the pizzas are good too. Should we visit Shaftesbury again we wouldn’t hesitate to stay there again, maybe in a room on the first floor though!
