The Morritt Hotel

my husband booked a ‘spa’ break at your hotel for my birthday yesterday and we have walked out this morning as NOTHING could get any worse. Before even arriving they tired to get us to attend the spa at 9am the day of our stay which was not even within our stay timeframe, after complaining it was moved to 14:00. I use the word spa loosely as it is 4 hot tubs which we could have at home in our own garden, nothing else was on, we had a 3 hour slot but it took us 30 minutes to sit in the hot tub which is all there was to do. The photos they use on site are false advertising there are no lovely wooden hot tubs nor is it quaint unusual little spa it is a tacky garden with 4 plastic shop bought hot tubs in. We then had to waste half an hour until check in at 3. Wow what an experience that was, UTTER filth from the second you open the door. First impressions are everything at front of house and even that was filth! Stair case un-hoovered and pure filth, banisters thick of dust. The room, repulsive and stuck in the 80s, damp all over the walls 80s dirty wallpaper, broken furniture. I had to get a member of staff to come and clean all the cobwebs and spiders hanging from the ceiling which you seen the second you walked in so HOW a cleaner left that, dirty cups left of last guests in the room, filthy carpet only hovered where you walk. The food, again photos are not what you get, braised brisket beef ordered as looked lovely on the pictures NOT what we got, we got a slice of WHITE yes white beef! I am unsure how a ‘chef’ can do that to a brown meat? Placed on a spoon of mash and 2 carrot sticks next to it and that was a main meal, the meal experience took 10 minutes in total, something that is impossible with fresh cooked food and what we ‘ordered’. We went to bed at 7 to get the night over and done with as quick as possible. Breakfast, a ‘chef’ that feels the need to fold fruit into a flower and meat into a flower is hiding their pure lack of talent and ability, we are also in 2026 not 1980. Shop bought cold croissants and a shop loaf of cheap bread, my poached egg was raw at this point we got up and left the hotel. Checked out by 8am as this has been the worst place we have ever been to. £300 I would have felt robbed at this stay costing £100 never mind £300. The cleaner service, though I doubt they have one, is utterly disgraceful and cleaning does not exist. so sad that such a beautiful exterior hotel is ran into the ground. I will add we ‘upgraded’ before arriving and this is a ‘better’ room. Looking after furniture, a bit of paint and actually cleaning would not make the hotel bust but the horrendous reviews it gets will. Had zero response from complaint so goes to show how much they care

My husband and I had lunch in the Dickens Bar as we were accompanied by our spaniel. The room is shabby with stained carpet and badly scratched tables. Unfortunately the food can best be described as poor. A disappointing experience which we will not be repeating.

Myself and two friends decided to take up the Spa offer that included dinner and one nights stay to celebrate one of our birthdays. On arrival the building itself was very striking and elegant. We went straight to the Spa and sat outside in the sunshine with a drink waiting for our Spa session to begin. The staff in the Spa were all very friendly and showed us around the treatment rooms etc. The outdoor area of the Spa needed some tidying up lots of dead plants and generally needed a good cleaning. I decided to have a back massage for an additional cost to the deal. The treatment room was lovely but while trying to relax all I could hear was the traffic noise from the A66 because the skylight window was open. The waiting area for your treatment was very cold and uninviting. After we had all had our treatments and time in the Spa we checked into the hotel. We had been given a room that sleeps 3 that was perfect for us. However, one of the beds was a sofa bed that I slept on and was so uncomfortable I couldn't sleep, the springs dug into me all night. It was horrendous. Dinner/ evening meal was disappointing, one of our friends ordered steak it was not cooked as she requested and was so tough and chewy she couldn't eat it. She told the manager and the meal was taken off our bill. Breakfast, not much choice on continental section. The full English ingredients used was of good quality but unfortunately served cold. I feel sad giving this review but I feel it needs to be said so hopefully improvements can be made
