Me and my partner visited this hotel all the way from Liverpool for a friend’s wedding. We did pick this venue because of how affordable it was. Upon arrival, we were greeted fast. The room had big windows and lots of light. Initially we were worried about the noise and there were loud parties in reception but as soon as we closed our room door we heard nothing. Beds were really comfy and clean, TV channels were limited but this did not matter to us because of how good the hotel’s location is! A shopping centre opposite, some great bars and restaurants very close, a river walk shortly away from the hotel and lots of great places to see! We were given local taxi number recommendations when we asked, WIFI was fast, came with food ammenities and when we checked out we had the best conversation with a staff member from Liverpool. He was humble, cheerful and we left with an even bigger smile on our faces because of him. The hotel even kindly let us store our luggage there so we could wonder around before our later train. The only feedback I had was there were black (almost looked like burn marks) in the tub of the bath. This didn’t effect my review as this did not bother me, however it was worth mentioning as it did not look too appealing and could do with a little re fresh 😊 if we ever visit the area again we would come back here.

Purchased a little night’s break away at the Mercure Kings Hotel in Darlington through Wowcher, redeemed my voucher upon buying & received confirmation via Wowcher. Upon arrival at the hotel I was told there was no record of the booking and there was nothing they could do & I would have to call Wowcher!? I showed the confirmation to the staff, she looked through the paperwork and then ‘found’ my booking!? I thought Phew!? I’d booked a double, only to be told no doubles were now available, only twins, even though I’d had confirmation!? The staff member said that Wowcher bookings need to be inputted manually and mine hadn’t been? Ah well, mistakes happen, we’d make the best of it? The hotel is nice enough and had a lovely night exploring Darlington, but then, after about an hour in bed, an alarm in an adjacent building began screaming!!! This continued for around an hour & a half, from 03:00 till 04:30, I thought, I’ll just close the window!? But no, our window didn’t close as the mechanism was broken, so lay awake till it eventually stopped!? I can say the breakfast was lovely, good selection but we were both very tired to enjoy it!?
