The Marine Hotel

Stayed for 3 nights 7-10 September. 2nd time staying here. Yes it is an old hotel that is currently undergoing modernisation in many areas. But I found it to be an excellent hotel with very friendly and welcoming staff including bedroom staff. Very clean and tidy in all areas. Evidence of where modernisation has already been carried out since our last visit. Food very good in quality and even better in quantity! Don’t expect to lose weight. Plenty of choice available though. Only strong point I would raise is that we had room 19 on first floor. Lovely room spotlessly clean overlooking sea view. The large bathroom has a shower cubicle. Quite large. However the step in/out is very deep. As there are no hand rails any person, especially older or disabled, will have a few problems. I would put this in the Health and Safety arena! Hotel in lovely central area of Seaton Carew. Large car park at side and rear. Despite the one issue I have raised, I intend to go back next year. I did raise the issue I mentioned with reception staff.

There were eight of us stopping here whilst golfing locally. Hotel was great. Close to the course, twin rooms most satisfactory. Check in staff efficient and friendly. Bar service, choice and quality outstanding. All of us ate in the evening and the food choice, quality and service brilliant. What actually made us all comment were the staff - if you are the owner of this place make sure you look after them.

This is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. The receptionist was so rude and unfriendly. Clearly didn't like people or her job. Booking was a nightmare. No apology for their error. No feedback request on checking out. Room was dirty. Stains on carpet. Drinking glasses had stains running down them. Bathroom was disgusting. Dirt and mould on shower door. We couldn't use the shower because of the filth. To top it all off, breakfast was swimming in oil. It's sad this once beautiful hotel has been run down by staff who don't care.
