The short version is: I emphatically suggest you avoid this place. We booked 2 nights and left after one (as early as we could in the morning - I'd have gone before if I didn't have a small child in tow).
The reasons:
Arrival: My full name and room number were left in the entrance way. A safety and data privacy violation that breaches Data Protection and GDPR.
Location: Not something that can be helped by the owners but important for potential guests to know - we had a view of commercial bins, bird droppings all over the windowsill (okay, that can be helped if they wanted to), and I got to watch a drug deal taking place. So that was great.
Noise: The building is old and has fallen into disrepair. Consequently, the noise of squeaky floor boards, rattling windows, other guests, the drains - it's all hugely disruptive. None of us could sleep. There was a number to call for noise complaints, as I assume this is a very frequent concern for guests, but a) I had no phone reception and b) even if I could have called, would they have come out and fixed the drains and windows? Unlikely.
Cleanliness: Or lack thereof.
The first thing you notice is the smell - like wet dog.
Then the dust - I moved the blinds and curtains and the cloud of dust was repulsive. We stayed in the room for less than 12 hours and couldn't stop sneezing. We had to use two towels to wipe dust off our bags that had been on the floor and off our feet. Awful.
The bed looked like it had been made but sheets hadn't been washed. Lots of hair and little bits of dirt on the sheet under the duvet. The pillows smelled horrible.
Thick cobwebs behind the TV, a carpet of dust under the bed.
The bathroom was, unbelievably, even worse. There were a lot of small black hairs in and on the bath, along with mould and rust.
The wood behind the toilet is rotting, possibly hence the smell, and clearly not even wiped down.
The floor appeared to have neither been hoovered or mopped.
The bathroom door didn't properly shut. If you put down the latch, it stayed closed but it didn't stay shut on it's own.
The towels! Four towels (one regular size, three hand towels - for three people staying two nights...), they smelled disgusting. Again, like damp, mouldy, wet dog. They were clearly very old - scratchy, losing their colour... They were like the towels you might use to line a dog bed.
Electrical issues: The lights were fine for a while but then started flickering on and off. Not the bulb, as the representative for the place suggested, unless both bulbs just happened to have the same issue simultaneously. And the red light on the dusty TV randomly started flashing persistently every now and then.
The temperature: Again, probably can't be helped that the room was stifling, but the fan was filthy so we had to just deal with it.
The fan that the representative said had "the tiniest amount of dust". First off, it was a lot of dust (maybe that's fine in your own home but I didn't want a load of other people's dead skin blown around the place), but even if it had been a small amount, why was that not cleaned? It suggests very low standards across the hygiene management.
There were other weird things like nails hanging out the walls and doors, old wallpaper peeling off, a bin right next to the sofa bed, the place being called an apartment when it's just a tiny room not big enough for three...
The response: I raised my concerns approximately one hour after arriving. As I had no phone signal, I used the message function through Booking.com - my only avenue of communication. When I got a reply the following afternoon, they were unhelpful, argumentative, and rude.
They did check the room and send me photos of the dirty bath and fan, some I've uploaded here. Worth noting they later deleted those photos from the chat. Suspicious).
They kept insisting they can't help me as I didn't call the phone number. I explained multiple times that I had no phone signal but they have conveniently ignored that.
They said something about being available to deal with serpents, but thankfully we had no issues with snakes...
I told them we would not be staying, I told them I had checked out, and yet they insisting I was still staying there. Very odd.
The good bits:
The bed was comfy. Just a shame we couldn't sleep because of the noise, sneezing, heat, and disgusting sheets.
So, overall: Stay away! There are far better places for a similar price.
