I am actually lyeing in my bed here at The Highlands Inn, wishing I was somewhere else. I am up on the third floor. The stair carpet does indeed get worse as you move up the floors. To begin with it is just stained. By the time you get up here, it is worn and the wallpaper is hanging off. There is no carpet in my room at all - it is a sort of lino. There is no mirror in the bathroom. There is no remote so I can't watch the TV. And worse of all, there is no latch on the window, so it won't close, and the wind is whistling through the window. So a sleepless night ensues... Hopefully I will make it through till morning, but if I don't, I am in room 9.

Location was probably the best thing about the hotel . On entering the hotel our first reaction was to leave immediately ! it was very dusty & tatty the stair carpet was filthy with drink stains all over . It was stated as recently refurbished certainly not in any of the communal areas . Advertised as breakfast available it wasn’t! No food was available. Our room had been refurbished to a poor standard but it did have clean decent linen so as only there for 1 night we stayed. We returned just after 10 pm the bar was closed & there was no staff on site & no security we assume the front door was open all night . We were told there would be no staff in the hotel in the morning so drop keys in box . Advise strongly don’t book this hotel worst case we have ever stayed in .

All I can say is oh dear, avoid this place, filthy, run down, the staff stink of alcohol and weed and act like it's their own personal play ground, either the owner doesn't know or doesn't care, highly unprofessional, plaster falling off the walls, stinks of damp, unclean, it's that bad I'm surprised that environments health haven't shut them down, if I could give a zero rating I would, possibly the worst place that I have ever stayed
