The Fox and Coney Inn

Recent stay here was a nightmare! Our room (no.7) was dark, dismal and overlooking the busy main road. It was during the recent hot spell and as there is no air con in the property the only way to reduce the temperature (29 deg in the room) was to open the window and suffer the sound of HGVs roaring past throughout the night. The Inn's answer to this problem?...a desk fan! Why dont they install secondary double glazing and provide a portable air conditioner in the hot weather?....I asked but no reply. Do not be deceived by the website, this is just a pub with a few letting rooms....its not a hotel...which is run on the cheap but charges hotel prices. There are much better options nearby.

Room was fine for a small hotel like this. The door of our room opened onto the sidewalk of a busy street. It was a bit noisy. The staff was fairly indifferent to our requests.

We stayed last weekend as we were attending a friend’s wedding nearby, and from the moment we arrived, the team couldn’t have been more helpful. I’d called ahead to explain that we would be arriving before check-in and was told we could leave our luggage in the room and use a room to quickly change and freshen up before the ceremony — so helpful and much appreciated! After having a quick drink before heading off, the staff kindly offered to arrange a taxi to the venue so we could leave our car in their car park (one less thing to worry about with sore head the next morning!). Unfortunately, our taxi let us down, but an incredibly kind member of staff went above and beyond and offered to drive us so we wouldn’t be late. Such a lovely gesture and really sums up the attitude of the whole team. It’s a young team who genuinely go out of their way to help their customers and make you feel looked after. I can also confirm that the breakfast and Aperol Spritz were both absolutely tip-top! The room was lovely, beautifully in keeping with the property, with great fans which were very welcome during the heatwave, lovely toiletries and lots of thoughtful little touches. Good value for money, fantastic service and, most importantly, a lovely independent pub run with real care and attention to detail. We’ll definitely be coming back — Sunday lunch in the autumn is already on the list! Highly recommend.
