They say that lightning doesn't strike twice.... My last review was for Great Barr Birmingham. Having politely asked if it was possible to have runny yokes the eggs were redone beautifully cooked. But presented with a side of calcium - brown egg shell mockingly obvious nestled on top. Asked again at this hotel for poached eggs with runny yokes and ordered a side of vegan sausages. Curiously sausages turned up before the eggs. Eventually the eggs came. More hard boiled than poached and a visible triangular piece of shell embedded in one. Breakfasts appear not to be made with love. Bitter, sour, bland flavours it just tastes awful. This chain used to be one of the top brands competing on an equal par with Hilton and the Marriott. It is sad to see the slow decline. We have loyally stayed with the brand for over twenty years which gives a clear timeline of slipping standards...

Really impressed considering it's a Holiday Inn. The room was functional and comfy with air conditioning. Shower over bath as opposed to walk-in but there was an adjustable shower head. Lighting in the bathroom was not ideal for makeup application and there wasn't a shaving mirror, but that's not necessarily expected in a budget-friendly hotel. The restaurant for breakfast offered a good selection and they were happy to make poached eggs on request. If I'm visiting our offices again I wouldn't hesitate to stay again. The staff were all wonderfully helpful and friendly.

I stayed for one night in May during a gathering of old friends. Entrance a little hidden by overgrown foliage - this could be improved. Just enough chargeable car parking spaces. Friendly, efficient staff throughout. Room & bathroom as to be expected, clean, well equipped and comfortable. Some road noise from the nearby dual carriageway - other rooms face the adjacent pub car park, so maybe 6 & two threes re room location choice. Despite what appeared to be a full house at the weekend, the hot/cold breakfast buffet worked quite well, with dishes being replenished as necessary. Decent food at decent prices at the adjacent pub/restaurant which shares the car park.
