Old Manse Hotel

The pub is very tired and needs updating. Our room was clean however the decor was awful. Firstly the bathroom, the shower head was broken. It had a piece missing so we could not slide it up high enough to use properly. The toilet seat was broken and kept sliding every time we used it. The plug holes were quite tarnished and rusted. The whole bathroom suite looked about 40 years old. On the back of the door there were missing hooks for towels. In the bedroom there was peeling paint in many places from damp and peeling wallpaper. The whole room needed redecorating. The room was very small and could just about get around the beds. It was absolutely not worth the £170 for one night that we paid for it. The beds however were comfortable and it is in a great location in Bourton on the Water

⭐️⭐️ 2-star review My husband and I stayed at the Old Manse Hotel in the Cotswolds for one night. The hotel is in a gorgeous location, right by the river, in a very pretty area. The outside of the hotel is also lovely and has plenty of character. Reception was nice and friendly, which was a positive start. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed with the overall cleanliness and condition of the hotel and, based on our experience, we would not stay again. The carpet on the staircase leading to our room was absolutely filthy and looked as though it hadn’t been properly cleaned for years. It really needs replacing. Our room itself was a reasonable size, but the cleanliness was poor. The two chairs were extremely dirty and we didn’t feel comfortable sitting on them. The bedside lamp wasn’t working, the carpet was dirty, and there was a thick layer of dust on top of the radiator, which looked like it hadn’t been dusted for months. The room also desperately needs a fresh coat of paint. Thankfully, the bedding was clean, which was reassuring. The bathroom was particularly disappointing. The toilet was dirty, there was heavy limescale around the taps, and there was mould behind the toilet and all over the grout. The floor was also dirty. There was nowhere practical to hang towels and very little space to put toiletries. It really is a shame because the hotel is in such a beautiful location and has the potential to be a lovely place to stay. With some serious attention to cleaning, maintenance and updating, it could be so much better. Unfortunately, based on our one-night stay, we would rate it as a 2-star hotel and would not choose to stay here again.

It’s honestly such a shame to visit somewhere as beautiful and picturesque as Bourton-on-the-Water, in the heart of the Cotswolds, and be served food of this standard. You come to a place like this expecting a decent, fresh, country-style breakfast made with good local ingredients. Instead, the eggs tasted as though they had been microwaved, the mushrooms were extremely unappetising, and a “breakfast” came with just one egg. The overall quality was very disappointing. The service was equally poor. The bar appeared to be staffed by very young and inexperienced people who seemed uncomfortable and unsure of what they were doing. For such a wonderful location, this pub was a huge disappointment. Bourton-on-the-Water deserves much better than this.
