Stayed here last Saturday to break up a long journey from Dorset. I had booked the twin room back in January and did think it was rather expensive but it was a Saturday night in the Cotswolds in August plus there was a wedding on across the road where many of the guests were using the hotel here when staying overnight. I guess that had pushed the price up. The staff without exception were so helpful and obliging from the moment we checked in until the moment we checked out. The restaurant had a good choice on the menu and we were well looked after by a young waiter. We ate breakfast in the restaurant again the following morning. It was continental breakfast only but there was a reasonable selection of cereals, fruit and pastries. The toaster seemed to cause a few problems for people as it didn't brown the bread very well! The only area we were less happy about was the bathroom. Perhaps because we had requested a twin room and this was the only one available, we were allocated a disabled room. The bathroom was a large wet room and indeed it was very wet! The water didn't seem to drain away very quickly and we were worried we might slip. The bedroom itself had the usual tea and coffee on a tray, a hairdryer and wifi. The wifi proved somewhat intermittent and I had to keep re-connecting. There was ample car parking space. For one night, the facilities were perfectly adequate but if I had stayed here for a few days, the bathroom would have started to irritate me I think.

Firstly the staff here are excellent. Very helpful and friendly and could not do enough for us. We were in a room for disabled guests so it was nice and large although the wet room caused a few issues. There was only 1 pillow each but extras were brought when asked. The wet room was not a good experience with a very weak shower but the whole floor flooded so we had to ask for extra towels to soak up the wet on the floor because it was very slippery. The toilet roll was inaccessible from the loo, which needs to be addressed. Dinner was really good with a lovely young waiter serving us. He was very helpful and I am sure will go far. Breakfast was fine. It was only continental but there were pastries available which was a good choice although they would have been nicer warm. The toaster was not very good and needed 3 goes but bread was still white. Was a nice stay because of the staff but needs a few things like the wet room addressing.

If there was a ‘good’ rating in between average and very good I would probably have selected it because the location was good, plenty of parking, the staff were friendly and helpful and the evening restaurant food was good. However, as identified by other reviewers the accommodation is in dire need of upgrading. I appreciate that it is a grade 2 listed building, but the accommodation is worn, tired and dated. The en suite room and shower was absolutely terrible. The shower was just a trickle of water with very little pressure. A cooked breakfast was also not on offer only continental. In 2026 this is a must. We stayed for two nights and were disappointed to return to our room late on the second night and the room had not been cleaned or the towels replaced despite putting the correct sign on the door asking for the room to be cleaned. It was rectified quickly when I went down to reception but it’s basics that they need to be on top of. Great potential, but needs an upgrade.
