Nice rooms, with 2 decent double beds. Upstairs room overlooking the restaurant which meant the kids could look down at ‘their table’. Shampoos and gels really good, and a decent shower. Restaurant expensive, with small portions. Children do eat free (on certain tarrifs) but from the children’s menu. Our daughter, (11) didn’t want anything from it (fish fingers, meatballs&spagetti so ordered from the adult menu £££. All the portions were small and the prices high. Breakfast was much better, with a range of English breakfast cooked buffet and also continental cereals, pastries, toast etc. GF toast was available on request.

A decent choice for a chain hotel on the outskirts of Portsmouth. The bedroom was quiet, comfortable, and nicely furnished, and the shower was excellent. The area immediately around the hotel isn’t very attractive - mostly fast-food restaurants and retail units - but it’s an easy 20 minute walk to the Port Solent area where there are plenty of restaurants overlooking the attractive marina. The hotel restaurant and bar area was pretty unattractive - it felt more like a motorway service area than a hotel! We chose to eat elsewhere.

I would like to start off by saying that we didn’t feel that this Marriott was up to their normal standards and needs to up it’s game, especially as it is a franchise. On arrival at 1400, which was notified, whilst check-in on the App, I was advised that room wasn’t ready but they would ask housekeeping that we were waiting and that we should come back in 30 mins. This was fair enough as check-in not until 1500, but when we returned after 30 mins we were advised by a different agent that it wouldn’t be ready until 1500. Again fair enough, but had they told me at the beginning they would check me in until 1500 I would have left and returned later, so be aware. The room, which had been refurbished, was pleasant enough and the air conditioning worked well. The main main problem was the king bed, it was hard and very uncomfortable with an awful topper on the mattress, which we managed to survive the first night and thought that we would better once we got used to it the next day. Wrong we had an awful night and decided to get ready to go and we’re ready before 0700. After checking out I asked to speak to the Manager on duty, who I must say was very responsive, polite and apologetic, she fully understood our problem, which was probably helped by my disheveled appearance. She certainly helped in making me less unhappy and was a credit to the hotel. I write this review mainly to let others know about the beds, which I consider to be the most important aspect of any hotel stay.
