Room clean but basic. Good location for the Callanish standing stones. Bar decent but expensive. Food really bad, expensive and of poor quality. One night it was Mac and cheese with such a small portion I was left very hungry (and this is a cheap meal to make and cost £16) and the second night the burger appeared to be a frozen burger which was cooked still pink (this is OK with high quality meat but not with the quality I was served). Steam from showers in some rooms set off the fire alarms (around 4 am for some people leaving early).

We phoned on a Friday looking for a Saturday 7:30 pm table and told fully booked. Same later that day. Same on Saturday morning. Saturday 4pm we did get a booking. On arrival the restaurant was empty and the staff said the night was dragging! The service was poor. When asked for a recommendation one said she didn't know. When ordering the other didn't know if we could get an item as the chef wanted away.
The Chicken supreme didn't have supreme sauce, the Lasagne was cold in the middle and had to be returned, the venison pie had grit or very small bone in it.
We all thought the place had potential but on this experience would not recommend it to others. Shame as it is an a great location.

Everyone writing negative reviews have got to be some kind of awful spoilt brats. I for one had an absolutely fantastic time here and my only problem was that upon arrival for my 1 night stay I was immediately kicking myself in the ass that I did not make my Scotland trip longer so that I could stay 2 or 3 nights here instead!
I am a 38 year old female that came to stay here with my 19 year old daughter as part of a once in a lifetime trip. We are american and this was our first time off the american continent at all. We did 2 days in London, 3 days in Edinburgh, 2 days in Inverness and 1 day on the Isle of Lewis. My main draw was the Callanish stones. I was tipped off by a colleague that had stayed here before that Doune Braes was the closest lodging to the stones and that they had a fantastic time at the hotel and felt very taken care of. I was not disappointed!
Our stay here was one out of 4 hotels total for this trip and this was BY FAR THE BEST. The room (two twin beds) was HUGE compared to any of the other rooms, which were not bad, but this one was the best. The beds were made with a beautiful tartan blanket folded at the foot of the bed and they were very comfortable. I slept like a baby. It was hot outside but the windows let in plenty of cool air and I was very comfortable under the blankets. The curtains were dark and blocked out the early morning sun as one might wish they would. The view outside our window was tranquil and pretty, can see the loch from the room.
If I had my trip to do all over again I would definitely book more nights here. I hope I can return some day.
