Hawthorn Lodge Guest House

A good friendly B&B in a generally quiet area. Hadn't realised that the breakfast offering was only continental style but good choice of fruit and cereals with toast and tea that didn't spill from the pot - supplemented with bread and confectionary. (Some long life rather than fresh.) Cooked meats very nice and a choice of sliced cheese/spreads. Just missing sliced tomatoes but possibly difficult to maintain. Room2 has a sloping roof and en suite. Sloping roof caught me out once - ouch ! Comfortable beds. No mirror in the bedroom caused slight inconvenience and wash basin in the bathroom was a little on the small side prompting splashes onto the floor. Appreciated the large digital clock on the bedside cabinet. Digital safe was also a plus point. Very handy location - 11 minutes steady walk with wheeled suitcases back to the Railway station. Inverness is a compact city with unremarkable but typical architecture we didn't see any modern monstrosities -hopefully the multiple building sites won't spoil that situation. A very clean town centre. A nice riverside walk down both sides of the River Ness - worth crossing via the island to the other side if you are doing a loop. (Takes around an hour - the island bridge is 10 minutes or so beyond the Cathedral walking upstream) We took a day trip around and on Loch Ness with Rabbies - the highlight of our short stay.

Hawrthorn Lodge is about 5 minutes from the centre of town, the Station, the bus station and the shops. There is a Spar almost next door - very handy for the morning of our trip to Orkney when we left at the real crack of dawn and bought a breakfast there. The two rooms we used were roomy, with comfortable beds and lovely decor, and breakfast was buffet style and varied, with our hostess bring us our drinks and alerting us to information regarding the days events etc. She could not have been a better host and we are only sorry that retirement on her part later in the year means that she will not be there for us next year when we return.

My sister and I booked a two-twin bed room in this guest house and were 100% delighted by every moment we spent there. Cozy beds, fresh linens and the kindest hostess you could ever hope to meet. We were given excellent recommendations for dinner locations and treated to a home-cooked breakfast in the morning. Outstanding value and comfort- would definitely return.
