Mackay's Hotel

We stayed at the mackays hotel strathpeffer for 2 nights with 2 people The room was dirty very noisy it smelled musty and the windows could not open The shower was full of mold We each got 1 small towel to dry you The light by the bed was broken The chair was broken and the TV hung rickety and crooked on the wall The lock on the door was broken we could hardly lock the door The carpeting on the stairs was worn and made with tape The front desk employee sat on the couch all day with the front desk door closed was not very customer friendly It's a very old and impoverished hotel The letter L of hotel had fallen off the facade and was downstairs on the street by the door There was no breakfast service or anything like that to eat On the booking sites are the most beautiful pictures and a nice pool but that is not true Overall very bad Stay away from it

Hotel from the outside is a little run down but it doesn’t change our feelings towards how clean and comfortable the room and beds were. The room was cheap, spacious and perfect for an overnight stay.

Right I’m going to be fair about this if you pay £80 for a room when all of the others within 30 miles are charging £140 you should realise something is up. The room was basic, but reasonably clean. The only plus about the place. The bathroom suite was a light pastel blue colour, tres seventies! The outside of the building looks like its derelict. Overgrown garden and letters missing from the sign. Very Fawlty Towers. The reception would be in the old bar. There are no bar or restaurant facilities BTW… I think the receptionist lives in there kipping on an old leather sofa. … The stair are in need of a lick of paint and a modern carpet or one that doesn’t have a pattern straight from the seventies (pattern emerging there). When I say a lick of paint I mean a bulldozer. Swimming pool?? I never asked if it existed, but even if it did I suspect it would be minging. If you are into the dodgy homeless shelter feel, this is the place for you… Strathpeffer is one of the most soulless places I have ever been. Keep driving to Inverness!
