My wife and I stayed one night at the Drumossie Hotel in Inverness. It was a great experience. The food was excellent and the rooms clean and comfortable. The staff were very friendly to us ‘Yanks' which we really appreciated. We particularly noticed the manager and senior staff doing thoughtful things to accommodate us. We arrived a little late for a scheduled dinner. They booked us in quickly and transported our bags for us so that we could go directly to the dinner. It was a nice gesture that left a great impression. This was our second to last night in Scotland. We did not want to leave.

This was yet another Inverness hotel that doesn't provide mini-fridges in at least some of their rooms. As I have to keep my medication refrigerated & to hand at night, this meant we had to bring our travel-fridge with us on the 7.5hr drive to Inverness. There are fridge facilities available via reception, but that's no good to me if I need instant medication in the middle of the night.
It was also another Inverness hotel that turns the room heating off as soon as spring finishes. Happily, we discovered the concealed switch to turn on our room radiator & the bathroom towel rail, otherwise I would have frozen. But the corridors & reception rooms were noticeably chilly every time we stepped outside our room.
And it was yet another Inverness hotel that caters for coaches of tourist groups on a daily basis. Obviously I can't begrudge them any attempt to earn more money during the current assaults on the beleaguered hospitality trade by the Treasury, but when we came down to breakfast at 8am to discover a coachload of Chinese tourists had denuded the kitchen of its entire stock of brown bread, we were surprised, to say the least.
No disposable slippers or bottled water in the family room we had to book at short notice, but both were supplied on request by the very helpful recepionists.
The good points are that our bed was comfortable, the restaurant meals tasty & beatufully presented & all the staff were friendly, professional & helpful. Also, being slightly south of Inverness, it cut down our hideously long journey time by about 20 minutes.

One of the stranger places I've stayed. After checking in, making some requests of the front desk, and dining in the restaurant, we have seen a total of two employees. The same person checked us in, ran some supplies up to our room, and served us at dinner. The place seems almost deserted -- we saw a couple other guests in the dining room, but haven't seen anyone else in the lounge or room areas. The electric plugs in the room are an old type used mostly in India and don't fit our adapters. The halls are all dark until you walk into them and trigger lights. The water pressure in the shower produces a trickle about equivalent to the typical bathroom sink. The room is large and comfortable, and the few staff try very hard, but don't expect a usual stay!
