Nethybridge Hotel

Staying at the Nethybridge hotel was great. Their breakfast spread always left us full every morning, and their dinner menu also was fantastic. They had the best haggis of all that we tried. Even our little girls enjoyed it! The service is the main highlight, however. They were kind, attentive, and supremely helpful and accommodating. I found I loved the tea they left in the rooms, and when I asked for a spare bag, they gave me many! They were also helpful with reservations and recommendations for food in the area, even going so far as to check themselves for space for us. We left behind a watch when we checked out, and they were incredibly accommodating and kind, going the extra mile to post it back to us all the way in the United States -- and they waived us paying for the postage as well. All the standard stuff was also magnificent. The rooms were clean, the water was hot, and everything worked well. The space was comfortable and the adjoining neighbors and surrounding area was quiet except for the joyful birdsong in the morning. There is a friendly cat across the garden out front that we made friends with. It was also supremely easy to get around where we wanted to go from here, making it a stellar location for our Aviemore activities, and even Loch Ness! Can't wait to stay here again!

The grand frontage of this late 19th century hotel shows some signs of neglect but inside the public areas are okay and spacious. It is a large hotel and obviously a major choice in the region for non-British visitors. My ground floor bedroom was well appointed with a good bathroom, clean, comfortable and enough space. The dining room was large and with many options on the menu. The quality of the food at dinner was poor, with sad toast fragments for the goat’s cheese and stodgy to tasteless haggis (neeps & tatties) - sufficiently unappetising for me to pass on dessert. Breakfast next morning was slightly better but unexciting & formulaic. Beyond the dining room was a lounge bar with tables for pub food and then a larger informal lounge. In addition the residents’ lounge near the entrance was a possibility but seemed to be rarely used. Service varied greatly with the dining room reception perfunctory but the waiter delivering dishes and taking payment a bustling & helpful man. All in all, a hotel which might get to 4/5 for its rooms but merited no more than 2/5 for food - hence an ‘average’ score overall.

Lovely location and upon arrival what a beautiful Victorian hotel. However….. Some serious TLC would not go amiss. Frayed, stained curtains. Stained walls and ceilings where there has been obvious water damage. Dead flies and dust gathered in window sills. Holes in walls badly patched up with a bit of plaster and a lick of paint. Shame as this could be a gem of a hotel but seriously needs a bit of investment. The room was a really good size and the bed spread were nice/ good quality. Plenty tea/coffee making facilities with an additional touch of shortbread. Cleanliness was questionable ….not sure if our room was cleaned prior to our arrival, if it was then something was amiss as there was dust on majority of surfaces. Bathroom odd layout and you had to watch you didn’t bang your knees at the side of the door when sitting on the toilet. Incredibly small for a family bathroom. The absolute selling point of this hotel is the food….incredible. The chef and kitchen staff save this place. I wholeheartedly recommend coming here just for dinner. Breakfast so-so. The cooked breakfast offerings were tasty and some of the best I’ve experienced however the rest of the offerings were sparse and not replenished often enough. Not great.
