The Hambrough

We stayed five nights at The Hambrough. Our room, number four was on the second floor. It's spacious with a sofa facing the sea. It has a large storage and clothes hanging area and is very comfortable. The bathroom is large with a bath and a walk in shower. There is no lift, so be prepared to walk up four flights of stairs, although you can get help with your luggage. We had the included continental breakfast on three mornings and a cooked breakfast on two. We thought the continental breakfast was a bit repetitive with the same granola or muesli each day , perhaps a mix of cereals or the inclusion of occasional cheese, ham or hard boiled eggs would make it more interesting. The fabric of the hotel itself does need attention, some of it is cosmetic. For example the blinds in our room were scruffy and temperamental and, although the hotel is generally very clean, the blind in our bathroom was not. Saying this we did have a lovely holiday The Hambrough staff were very nice and helpful and it is ideally located to take advantage of the sea and the good restaurants, a short walk away.

My mum and I stayed at The Hambrough for our annual girls’ trip in April. We used the hovercraft, and hired a car from Enterprise (both super easy). The hotel was easy to find. You can either park along the road outside or there is a car park to the rear (quite a narrow entrance if you have a big car though). We really loved the hotel, it felt wholesome; the warm welcome, the kindness and friendliness of the staff, the home cooked food, the beautiful view, the easy pace of life. The view from the balcony (I think it was room 1) was lovely and the room was big and comfortable. A few reviews have said the hotel could do with a freshen up, and I guess I’d agree, but it didn’t bother us, as the staff, breakfast, location and comfort made up for a bit of peeling paint. We would definitely stay again.

Stunning views from 1st floor bedroom/balcony, lovely period property, excellent service from well-trained staff & as for the food and drink.. Checked in with very friendly reception staff, great to see the hand-written chalkboard with weather & tide details, encouraging guests to venture out to enjoy the delights of Ventnor town & beach. We were helped upstairs to the 1st floor, even tho we were really travelling light - just a short stay, a brief sojourn from every day life.. Very spacious bed-/sitting room, with excellent comfy settee & Coffee-pod machine, lovely seaside décor, so appropriate for the location. Huge & well appointed bathroom, sparkling-clean & thick fluffy towels & robe, with a tub big enough for a retired mermaid! Super comfortable bed, with a view over the balcony down to the sea - tough choice whether to have a lie-in, or get up and make the most of the day. The choice was made easier when the aroma of breakfast & coffee started to waft up the central staircase - a race downstairs, and breakfast was as good as the previous evening's excellent meal had promised: everything you could ask for & lots of it! Tempted to have a Siesta after the vast amount consumed for breakfast - great experience, worthy of a top-notch seaside break & overall good value for money!!
