Ommaroo Hotel

This hotel is perfect for us. The location is perfect by the sea and on a bus route. The accommodation is excellent, we have a sea view. Breakfast is included and served buffet style in the beautiful dining room. The food is great across the board. The staff are really good, friendly, helpful and plentiful. Snacks are available should you require it 24/7. Cleanliness in the hotel is superb and the rooms are serviced daily. The bus service is superb, we purchased a 7 day pass which allows you to hop on any liberation bus allowing you to explore the whole Island. Highly recommend this lovely hotel. The hotel also has a heated swimming pool.

Locals looking for an alternative to the much-missed Friday night fish night at the Pomme. The added fun of a false alarm fire alarm certainly livened up the start of the evening, but it was quickly dealt with, and we were eventually seated only 15 minutes or so later than our booked time of 6.30pm. Have to say, for the price of £39, it was excellent value. All of us had 3 trips to the starters (in our case, focusing on the fish over the salads and meats) and it was fabulous quality and quantity. Raw oysters (one of my favourites), various prawns and gambas, sushi, poached salmon, gravadlax, spider crab (anotherof my favourites!), clams and moules a la creme were my go-to dishes, but there was also charcuterie, fish soup, and various salads. (And plenty of bread if you wanted to fill up on that.) Carvery for the main course is where the Ommaroo doesn’t quite match up to the much-missed Friday nights at the Pomme, but I'm sure that is also one of the reasons why the price in 2026 at the Ommaroo for 4 courses is pretty much the same as the Pomme was 8+ years ago. Nevertheless, beef was cooked medium rare, and very tender. There was also roast pork, though didn't try that (but did take a lot of crackling!) Veg, while not amazingly imaginative, was perfectly good (steamed green beans, broccoli, carrots, parsnips and cauliflower cheese) along with Yorkshires, roast and Jersey Royals. Between us we tried every dessert and cheese, as well as coffee, though I'm not really a dessert person. However, the piled, and then cleared, essert dishes of everyone else suggested they were very good! I had the cheeses (cheddar, brue and stilton) with grapes and celery. Pretty sure we were the only locals there, but no issues with that if it stays a hidden gem just gor the season! The season for Friday nights ends in September, but we will be back before then, and the restaurant manager also recommended the monthly Sunday lunch Carvery feast, so we'll try that too! Can highly recommend the Ommaroo for the Friday night feast, and we look forward to coming back in the next few weeks before it ends, but also trying the monthly Sunday Carvery over the winter! Overall, it was £40 pp for food and coffee. Complimentary water was freely available, and wine very reasonably priced. The only thing I would say is (and we had a vegetarian/pescatarian with us, so they were overjoyed with the fish) this isn't the restaurant for a total vegetarian or vegan. And, to be fair, it doesn’t claim to be. There were the salads, some small tomato and goats cheese tartlets, and a chickpea main, but Jersey has better options for vegetarians and vegans. We will be back, and special mention to our server, John, who was so friendly, and totally amazing keeping our table serviced all evening (we made sure to tip him in cash directly, rather than just adding a tip to the final bill). All the staff were amazing, helpful and friendly, though.

The staff is super nice and very eager to meet every wish. The building is historic (narrow hallways, many intermediate doors, few direct paths from A to B) but with a lot of charm. The 5-person family room is sufficiently large; we would recommend the bunk bed up to max. 12 years of age. Major drawback in the room: no way to dry things! The hotel pool is quite small (4x8 m) but it was sufficient for us. There are sun loungers there as well. The breakfast is nothing special, but okay. Lunch and dinner are reasonably priced for the area. The White Horse Pub & Restaurant around the corner is highly recommended. Important to know: the Wi-Fi was unusable in our room because it kept dropping out. We would have also liked drinking water in the room. But there is a small supermarket around the corner where you can stock up on water and sandwiches for excursions. Overall, we did not regret choosing this hotel for a week on Jersey. The bus connection is great - the transport system across the entire island works well. There are family passes for the bus network that are absolutely worth it. We used Ryde for the airport transfer. However, the hotel has a high average age of guests. With cranky toddlers, you might be better off somewhere else. The beach opposite is mega (!!!) and the tide-independent water basin is great! The sea is crystal clear, the sand very fine. The Caribbean can stay away for all we care - we are going back to Jersey!
