Harlands Hotel

Booked 2 rooms here 3 weeks in advance, received a booking confirmation 3 days before our stay, only to have our room cancelled by the hotel a few hours before we arrived to check in! As we were travelling at the time, we weren't even aware until we arrived to check in, only to be told we had no booking. Manager/owner acted as though he had no idea what could possibly have happened. Tried blaming Booking.com for the cancellation (not that I booked on Booking.com...). Also had absolutely zero concern for our situation, literally couldn't care less. Another hotel we spoke to when trying to find somewhere to stay for the night said that they had several other people tell them the same story over the past few days!

Stay Details: Room 5 (2 Adults, 1 Child) Overall Verdict: Would not return. Arrival & First Impressions Our stay started on a positive note. We arrived on Friday night and were greeted warmly by the manager, who took the time to show us around the property. Room 5 was clean upon our arrival, which was much appreciated. Unfortunately, the quality of our stay rapidly declined from there. Room Comfort & Amenities Bedding & Comfort: The sleeping arrangements were extremely poor. The memory foam mattress had completely lost its support—because memory foam molds to previous guests over time, the mattress was left lumpy and full of deep, uncomfortable dips. Furthermore, we were only provided with one pillow each, which was so hard it felt like sleeping on concrete. None of us slept well. Broken Equipment: The TV remote in the room was non-functional, making basic room amenities useless. Noise Disturbance & Private Event (Saturday Night) The primary reason for our poor rating was the unacceptable noise level on Saturday night. We returned to the hotel at around 9:00 PM after attending an airshow, expecting a restful evening with our child. Instead, music was blaring loudly from the ground floor due to a private event taking place. No Prior Notice: As guests staying with a young child, we should have been notified about this event in advance so we could have been placed in a quieter room away from the function space. Ignored Complaints: The noise continued into the early hours of the morning. I went downstairs at 1:00 AM to lodge a formal complaint, but nothing was done and the music kept playing. Resolved at 4:04 AM: After hours of being unable to sleep, I had to go back downstairs a second time at 4:04 AM to demand action before the music was finally turned off. Staff Professionalism & Legal Breach To make matters worse, staff members were seen sleeping in the bar area during our stay, showing a severe lack of professionalism and management oversight. Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, services must be carried out with reasonable care and skill. Providing an unusable room where sleep is impossible due to excessive, unannounced noise fails to meet this basic standard. Given the severe lack of sleep and distress caused to our family, management should have offered appropriate compensation or a partial refund for the stay, rather than ignoring the issue. Final Thoughts While the initial greeting from the manager was lovely and the room was clean, the lack of basic comfort, poor communication, and total disregard for guests' well-being make this hotel impossible to recommend. We will not be staying here again.
