Crown Hotel Stamford

What a gorgeous hotel. The room was beautiful and very clean, the staff friendly and attentive and breakfast was perfect. We hope to return. Thank you

The Crown occupies an enviable position just off the main square in Stamford. It's a little tricky to get to by car via a one way street, but despite my concerns about parking there, I had no problem. We arrived a couple of hours before official check-in time and fortunately our room was ready and we were able to check in. The room was clean, tidy and spacious. The shower took some experimentation to select a setting that wouldn't either freeze me to death or give me first degree burns, but I soon got the hang of it. Our stay was during the year's oppressive heatwave, but the room boasted a fantastic, whisper-quiet pedestal fan that provided a gentle cooling breeze. I slept like a baby. The beer garden was very pleasant, a spacious outside area which was the perfect spot to unwind after spending the day walking around Stamford. The hotel staff were very friendly, nothing was too much trouble, and I would have liked to report that the Crown is the perfect hotel. However, we decided to eat in the restaurant in the evening and I am sorry to say that this is where the spell was broken. The sirloin and a fillet steaks which arrived at our table, appeared to have materialised from another dimension of space and time where boiled gristly meat is considered a delicacy. The chips were OK. The chef's efforts the following morning were equally disappointing. Two full English breakfasts looking as if they had been dragged screaming and kicking from a deep fat fryer, reminded me that my car is due for an oil change soon. So, what should have been a comforting, hearty breakfast was instead a greasy endurance test. A good Full English should leave you feeling satisfyingly full. This one left me feeling like I had been mugged by a frying pan. My advice. Enjoy the hotel, it's a lovely place. But avoid the food.

Had a cocktail making session with Phil in the Garage (fab room!) The class was brilliant fun, learnt some interesting facts about the history of the drinks we were making and made some fab cocktails that tasted great! Would highly recommend!
