The Shakespeare - London

Location was good BUT I was staggered to find out (after I'd had a drink from my tap on a very very hot day) that the water was non-potable. They did not inform us at reception. The sign was not next to the tap in our room. We told our 90 year old father to have a good drink as soon as he got into his room after a morning of travelling. When I queried it a reception they really didn't know why it wasn't drinkable. The reception staff should be saying this to all guests upon arrival, and issuing you with a complimentary bottle of water at least. Yes there was a water station on the ground floor, but no cups to use. The room was also very very small. The double bed was right up against the wall. We knew there wasn't a lift but being up on the 3rd floor was a bit knackering to carry your suitcases up. And then breakfast (which was ok but nothing amazing) was down in the basement.

We booked this hotel realising that it was a budget hotel but unfortunately it fell well below our expectations. On the plus side it was well located for Hyde park where we were going to a concert and there are many cafes, bars and restaurants within close proximity. However sadly this was the only plus point. When we arrived to check in, we were met with an unfriendly, unhelpful and disinterested male receptionist. Our room was exceptionally small (which was not a major issue as we were not going to be in it that much), but there was literally no room to put anything and for some reason there was a small side table which was completely pointless as there was no room for it. We had to just put it in front on the door so we could get round the bed. The tiny shower room had a very unpleasant drain smell to it. Breakfast was 7.30 -9.30am and we got down at 9.10. The choice was extremely limited and the only ‘cooked’ they had was a Pyrex bowl of baked beans or scrambled eggs which were just left on the side and completely cold. Butter was not available, only cheap margarine. We just had some toast and a croissant but at 9.30 exactly all the food was cleared away and although we were finishing our coffees at 9.40, we were asked to leave so they could shut the breakfast room. I have stayed in other budget hotels in the Paddington area and this was by far the worse and I would not recommend.

This time, I traveled solo in London again, so I chose this hotel to keep my trip budget-friendly. The room was a little old and quite tiny. The breakfast wasn’t luxurious, but it was more than enough for a solo traveler. Most of all, the staff’s hospitality was outstanding. That’s what made me happiest and became the most memorable part of my trip. お財布に優しい旅を希望で、ラグジュアリーなお部屋を求めていなければ、選択肢の一つに入れて良いと思います。階段のカーペットだけでもリニューアルされるといいなあとは思っています。 スタッフの方は本当に優しくて、ホスピタリティが素晴らしいです。フレンドリーにお話ししてみると、楽しい宿泊になると思います。
