The White Hart Hotel

Just had 2 nights there . We really liked the hotel . A good location close to the river and shops . Hotel is in an excellent condition. Staff were friendly and breakfast was very good . Hotel also offers a 15% discount on food and drink which is a nice touch 👌. We will definitely return

Room was nice, AC was wonderful. It was ok but a lot of little things added up. Welcome was lacking. Even though I introduced us, gave my name as the booking was in my name and handed my credit card while my male partner stood around the corner (small lobby) the lady checking us in barely acknowledged me and asked all questions to my partner and went out of her way to hand my CC to my partner around the corner. Booked dinner reservations at desk, they offered 5:30 we asked for 6. When we arrived they were staging a photo shoot for marketing that was still ongoing and couldn’t give us a table. Why did they take reservations if they were busy? Offered a bar table which was fine but had to go to bar for refills and order additional food, booked reservation as we wanted full restaurant service. At checkout given bill for dinner, asked if it could be applied to CC on file, they said no, but after putting down all of our bags and getting a card out and using it to pay, they said they were then able to use CC on file. Then asked for an emailed total bill but was told they couldn’t do that as I “booked on Expedia” which I didn’t and said so. Then as we were walking out the door they said fine, we can print one. Felt like they had concluded we booked with Expedia and were offering the bare minimum effort. No tea supplies refilled in room on our second day But restaurant staff went out of their way to give us tea supplies when we mentioned it—that was great.

Great place to stay - the location is good, our room was spacious and comfortable. The terrace is a pleasant place to sit out for a drink. The only complaint we had was an extraordinary bit of pettiness at breakfast: we ordered toast at the same time as our main breakfast (two full breakfasts, one poached egg and smoked salmon). Our meal arrived about 10 minutes later, without toast. I asked again and received a very curt response from the young man who was serving us, who told us that the toasting machine was slow. 5 minutes later four half slices of cold toast were delivered to our table. I asked if we could have more, and was told that breakfast only includes one full slice of toast per person (and none for my wife since she already had bread with her egg), and that we would be charged for any more. I asked the manager about this when checking out, and she confirmed that this is the hotel policy. I have never experienced such extraordinary and pointless penny pinching in over 40 years of frequent hotel stays for work and leisure.
