Best Western Alicia

Very scuffed hotel in good location. Having paid £87+ for an overnite stay we were allocated a room the size of a small single aja large cupboard. Bed & bathroom clean, even though but tiles coming away from wall. Security okay. Carpet corners and doorless wardrobe award- winningly dusty. Hadn't' seen a hoover or damp duster for weeks +. Chipped decor. Outlook a brick wall. Nobody around to request a room alternative. Bed comfort okay but tiny size of room made it impossible for a thin couple to pass each other without sliding over the bed. God help anyone muscular or fat. Nobody on reception desk to complain to. Avoid this place. This is not a 3-star establishment. And where were the staff?

I am leaving this review for the Liverpool Aigburth Sefton Park Hotel where i stayed overnight on Saturday 25th July 2025. The hotel was extremely disappointing and the whole experience has severely tainted my first ever trip Liverpool First room I was allocated, had two issues: - missing TV remote control; - faulty toilet flush that was constantly running. Upon raising these issues, the manager transferred me to a second room which initially appeared OK. However, this room too revealed some issues over the course of the night: - having dropped some coinage that rolled under the bed, I had to pull the bed away from the wall which revealed debris under the bed including used condom wrappers and toiletries; - there were very limited toiletries found in the bathroom: - empty dispensers for shower gel, shampoo and handwash. Only two small sachets of shampoo and soap provided; - vanity basin shaver light not working - faulty pull switch - the curtain was missing hooks so that it didn't close properly to cut out all light. When inspecting the issue it revealed extensive cobwebs behind the pelmet; - signage in the lift indicated that breakfast was available everyday from 7.00am, although when visiting the dining room shortly afer 7.00am there was no evidence of breakfast or staff. Uoj contacting the unmanned reception, I was informed that breakfast was only available from 9.00am. Upon returning to breakfast, despite there being a number of breakfast choices offered on the lift notice, they could only offer a full english. The staff also advised that they were an operator and not part permanent staff, so unaware of the notice in the lift. - signage around the hotel generally poor and hinders navigation. I considered even statutory escape signage to be unclear. On leaving the hotel for an evening stroll, I saw a rat running across the forecourt around the waste bin compound suggesting a poor level of waste management and environmental health. Poor TV reception in the room with the signal for a number of stations (including the main UK channels) dropping out or not receiving at all.

The pictures on the website do not reflect this hotel at all, they are obviously very old. The hotel.is no longer owned by best western or Belvilla, it is owned by OYO. The hotel appears to be run down rven from the outside, the paint is peelingvfrom the railings and there is moss and mould in the fountain and the windows of the glass house. There is a terrible dirty smell that hits you as you walk in. The manager popped his head out the door or either a toilet or office (I'm unsure which) as we entered to loudly complain people are always phoning him, which was odd! When we came to meet up at the reception desk he was pleasant and recommended places nearby we could go for food and drinks as we wouldn't be eating in the hotel and breakfast didnt start until 9am and we had to leave for an event at 8am. The decor was probably once nice but was now very dated with wallpaper peeling from walls etc. There was a very strong smell of cannabis in the lift. I did attempt to book a travel lodge 10 minutes after getting into our room and seeing the state of it. We had clean bedding and towels, otherwise our room was grim. Carpet had what I think were food stains on it, and the carpet felt dirty underfoot. I kept my shoes on. The skirting boards were dirty and the bathroom floor was also stained with what appeared to be grout, so less of a concern just messy. The shower worked and temp was ok, not hot enough for me but my partner found it ok. However the water drained very slowly leading me to believe the drain was probably blocked. To top it off we had loud music from a neighbouring room from 9pm until after 2am, while I accept this is not the hotels fault we could not figure out which room this coming from we asked for support from the manager via whatsapp. As it was getting late I also went to find him when I didnt get a reply. He came back to the room with me and could not determine where the music was coming from and advised i message if it started again. It did and I messaged and was told this would be taken care of, it was not. Although this is in a good location I would not visit again.
