We had originally booked a room at the Lake Inn, 5 minutes from the Royal Hotel, but received a phone call from the Lake Inn whilst driving to Liverpool to tell us the toilet in our room wasn't working so the Lake Inn booked us a room at the Royal Hotel instead.
It was a family room and suited us fine. Plenty of parking and situated by the promenade gardens.
All the staff at The Royal that we encountered were great and a credit to the Hotel.
Liz at breakfast is so friendly, welcoming and engaging, an absolute star! So is Amy, very friendly and welcoming.
A mention for Rory on reception as well, very friendly, welcoming and helpful.
So our replacement stay which we were a little concerned about, ended up being a great nights stay and we were very happy with the hotel, which was very clean and our room had all the the facilities you would want.
The only downside we found is there is no lift at the Royal hotel (my wife has some mobility issues) and we were on the second floor. However I didn't ask the Lake Inn to ensure we had a lift at the replacement hotel, my mistake.
