Edinburgh Central Guest House

We had to cancel a longer holiday, of which this Edinburgh stay was a small part (due to vulnerability of some of the travelling party, some members who care for vulnerable people travelling from France, etc). We had originally booked this stay before the COVID outbreak. I phoned the hotel over a month before our arrival date and asked whether we could cancel for the weekend of the Edinburgh Festival (which itself has been cancelled). There was zero flexibility on this, even though we made it clear that the holiday would be rebooked next year. Their answer also made it clear that, in addition to charging me for my non-stay, they'd be seeking to rebook my room for a new paying customer. Very disappointing. The other places we'd booked were much more helpful.

My family stayed at the Edinburgh Central Rooms for 1 night after a 9-day drive around Scotland. Good thing it was only a one-night stay, as there were quite a few problems with this hotel. The WiFi did not work and neither did the TV. There was no reception so we had to reach out to the hosts via the Expedia messaging service. When we messaged the hosts about the WiFi and TV, the hosts replied by insisting that the WiFi and TV were working. When we explained that we could not get any WiFi signal and could not switch on the TV at all, the hosts stopped responding to us. No assistance or service was rendered. The other problem was the cleanliness of the bathroom. When we first entered the bathroom, it was obvious that it had not been cleaned properly before we checked in. There were little hairs all around - on the floor, in the basin and on the walls. It was not a pretty sight.

Great location! Room was very small and basic, and shared bathroom wasn’t ideal for the morning time when everyone was trying to get ready but we didn’t run into too many clashes. Although basic, the bed was comfy, the room had hairdryer, free water and chocolate teacakes (which I greatly appreciated), tv and WiFi. Biggest plus for this establishment was the central location and price, although overall would probably stay somewhere with a private bathroom next time.
