Greywalls Hotel & Chez Roux

Having read all the wonderful things about this hotel we booked a stay. After booking there was no communication from the hotel, it felt strange as most hotels especially ones we have stayed at that are in the SLH umberella contact you to check about reservations for dinner etc etc We emailed them. No reply. A week to go we emailed them again. No reply and by this time you’re starting to worry you’ve made a mistake. On arrival low key is an understatement, I do not think I have had less of a welcome anywhere, even a Premier Inn shows more interest in its guests. Shown to our room. Pre dinner drinks order taken and menu choices ordered. Drinks for table ordered. At table none of the ordered drinks are there…we wait..and after the starters are served we have to ask about our drinks..oh yes I forgot. Starters done and table semi cleared, soup pouring vessel left on the table and small plate from soup accompaniment left on the table for the remainder of the meal - never cleared away. Main course served. Food was ok, nothing special. Staff were the real let down. Breakfast the next morning ok too. We know that the hotel had recently been sold to Marine and Lawn so perhaps this acquisition somehow feeds into the overall atmosphere, ambience and lack of interest in the guest that we experienced.

A bit like a crumbling Marie Celeste…we arrived on a Saturday evening. Two members of staff so we dragged our own bags to our apparently luxury room. Shabby chic at best. Half empty restaurant but the food was ok. Starter looked like it had been pre prepared a couple of days ago but the fish main was first class. At the price we paid I was very disappointed

had lunch here on thursday a fantastic experience beautiful setting relaxed atmosphere friendly staff special thanks to Shani hope that’s correct he was so knowledgeable & went out of his way to make our visit memorable.
