Prestonfield House Hotel

I came for a champagne afternoon tea with my daughter and granddaughter. I have been many times previously and was one of my favourite places for afternoon tea. I had been gifted this as a gift from my colleagues as part of my retirement gift. When the waitress was taking her order we explained I had a gift voucher and she said great I will take that now. We asked if we could make a simple swap with the sandwiches as none of us like Salmon. We were advised not a problem. When the afternoon teas arrived the swap had not been done. We asked again and the waiter said sorry and took them away. After about 10 mins he brought them back and both wrong again and then we asked again to swap. Another lengthy wait and by this time we were really hungry. The trays were brought back the same as the last time with a side plate of what we had asked to swap. All in all it took about 40 mins to even get started on the food! We were asked once if we wanted more champagne but not asked if we wanted any more tea or hot water etc. In the past I have always had excellent service. When we came to leave I was presented with a bill for £170 and I explained I had already given a previous waitress my gift voucher. The girl said she would need to check this and made me feel quite uncomfortable. I really feel the standards have dropped massively and we were served by 4 different members of staff who did not appear to know what was going on. I sent an email to the hotel advising them of my experience and feeling sad that a lovely gift was not the experience I had hoped for. I have not received any reply which I think is bad customer service. Would I go back no for the price paid there are far better places who really are on board with customer service and experience.

Our two-day stay at Prestonfield House was simply stunning. This unique heritage mansion has an atmosphere all of its own. Fantastically and tastefully furnished, it gives you the wonderful sensation of stepping back in time, while still enjoying every modern comfort. The beautiful décor, centuries-old original furniture, magnificent four-poster bed, generous and elegant bathroom, thoughtful amenities and complimentary drinks all contributed to making our stay feel very special. Everything was impeccable, with remarkable attention to detail throughout. The restaurant was another highlight, offering exquisite fine dining accompanied by an excellent and extensive wine list. The beautiful park and surroundings only add to the charm and sense of escape. Not even the Scottish weather—two days of rain!—could spoil our stay. Quite the contrary: it simply gave us the perfect excuse to spend more time inside and enjoy the extraordinary atmosphere of the house. A memorable experience and a genuinely unique place to stay. We would happily return.

Magnificent hotel at the foot of Arthur’s Seat. Very cozy atmosphere and a somewhat unique decor, but full of charm. Reception was truly top-notch and the staff was very attentive. Superb park where it is very pleasant to stroll. Remarkable breakfast and a large selection of fresh products perfectly cooked. Interesting "sustainable development" commitments.
