Travelodge Edinburgh Haymarket Hotel

Hotel clean, with good staff, no noise, walkable to good distances, around the hotel is easy to find restaurants, public transportation,the bar cafe needs perhaps a facelift, and breakfast was subpar, but for the price did the job.

A basic hotel about 10 mins walk from Haymarket station. This was by the far the cheapest hotel I could find that could house 2 adults and a child in one room this close to the centre The hotel is a little tired looking. I was worried about the lack of air conditioning but with the window open and fan on it was fine. The breakfast room is very small and it did get a little chaotic. I've had nicer breakfasts in other travel lodge hotels. The staff were very friendly and helpful. There is no where to leave luggage, which wasn't an issue when we arrived as we got there half an hour before check in, but would have been if we'd wanted to arrive earlier. The staff told us about a few places near Waverley that we could leave bags and it was very straightforward to book this online and we used this option on our departure day.

We chose that area for its proximity to the Haymarket train station, and it was an excellent decision. The area is residential, very picturesque, it allowed us to see the typical Edinburgh buildings up close. It allows you to get around on foot to both the train station and the tram. There are squares nearby, supermarkets, from there you can walk to the old town and, while you are at it, go through part of the city, surrounding the old castle. It is not in the heart of the center but for us it was a strength because it is quieter. The hotel is simple and old, which being in Edinburgh is a plus, you feel like you are in another era. Our first-floor room was very spacious and comfortable, with an electric kettle, table, armchairs, and two extra beds. The check-in was a bit slow, they have a more relaxed pace, but very friendly. The hotel in general was very quiet; we felt like we were in a private hostel from another era. Our stay did not include breakfast, but it looked like the typical Travelodge ones. What we will remember most is walking through those fairytale streets on the foggy nights in Edinburgh.
