Old White Hart

Beautiful village setting but really poor food! Not one to pan a place needlessly but this was bad! What was meant to be a medium rare sirloin was more like a broiled lump of sinewy beef…. Add in what tasted like giant Aunt Bessie’s (dry and air packed) yorkshires, potatoes that were dry and lifeless, and a cauliflower cheese more like baby food, as well as underdone parsnips, and minted peas. This was genuinely one of the worst roast I’ve ever had & we’ve eaten out and had plenty. I like the pub, I like the pétanque even if the setup is a little tired but won’t go back for food. Starters too weren’t great, crab tart with seemingly none to little crab, and home made bread that was like a shop bought white loaf. Like many places now, seems happy with serving up 1990s school dinner standard food at £20 a main prices. Genuinely hope it gets better in the future…..

I was really looking forward to my meal, whilst the staff were very pleasant sadly the food was not. We chose from the half price al a carte menu, my 5 scallops had no flavour at all or sauce. They were served with a scattering of strange cubed potato’s and a teaspoonful of green sludge. My partners meal was mediocre and minute. Half price and half sized. Very disappointing.

Unfortunately, this was genuinely some of the worst food I’ve ever been served in a pub, made even harder to swallow by the prices being charged. I ordered a steak at over £30 and asked for it medium-well. What arrived was so incinerated it was almost impossible to cut, let alone eat. It was served on a plate with a handful of what appeared to be frozen chips and two onion rings. For more than £30, it was honestly a disgrace and completely inedible. My friend ordered the scallops, which were served on what I appeared to be mushy peas, accompanied by a seemingly random rasher of equally incinerated bacon. The scallops tasted as though they had come straight from the freezer, with virtually no flavour at all. Again, the dish was left largely uneaten. I really wish I’d read the previous reviews before booking, because poor food quality seems to be a common theme. What I find even more surprising is that if customers are regularly giving the same feedback, why hasn’t anything been done to address it? We don’t mind paying good money for good food, but this was nowhere close to the standard the prices suggest. Hugely disappointing and we certainly wouldn’t return.
