Best Western Plus Dean Court Hotel

We stayed here for two nights (Saturday and Sunday). The weather was 🥵. The hotel is a listed building situated right next to York Minster. Very convenient for walking access to the city centre. On our arrival we were greeted by two animated receptionists who welcomed us with friendly banter and instructed the porter to take our cases to our room. This was a great idea, as our room was on the second floor and the lift was out of order! The room was very spacious with a roomy en-suite bathroom. Everywhere was absolutely spotless. Because it was so hot, an internal air conditioner had been placed near the window. This was very effective, if somewhat noisy. The bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was well served with a wide variety of choices. On the Saturday evening, we decided to book a meal in the restaurant. I really don’t know what level of crisis had occurred in the kitchen, but we waited for fifty minutes to be served! That said, when it eventually arrived, the food was excellent. Fresh ingredients and delicious. We forgave the poor service. These things happen from time to time …. Believing that lightning never falls in the same place twice, we booked for Sunday lunch for the following day. It does strike twice! Only this time we waited for almost an hour. We had almost expected this, so we calmly laughed it off and had a couple of drinks whilst we waited. An episode of Fawlty Towers came to mind 😂 Again, when the food arrived, it was very good. We also had the advantage of not needing to have dinner, as it was 4pm by the time it was served. Overall, we had a good stay at Dean Court. We took the poor restaurant service with good humour. We later learned that it was chefs last day, which explained a lot. Would we stay here again? Yes, I think we would.

We booked a room with a shower and found our room was little better than a rabbit hutch passing itself off as double room. We have visited previously three or four times but there is no way that after this experience we will ever return

Location: Excellent right in the centre of York with views overlooking Minster. Staff: Very friendly, nothing too much trouble, really enhanced our stay. Rooms: View of York Minster!! Lots of fans and air con to deal with the hot weather. Value: Excellent value for money, rate included full English breakfast. Breakfast: Great continental selection, hot full English breakfast and other choices served quickly in a tranquil atmosphere, loved it. Overall, a really good vibe in this hotel, couldnt have chosen better. Had a brilliant time.
