The Royal Hotel Scarborough

Couldn't fault staff, room and food. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Can't wait to return.

We got married in this hotel and stayed here a few times. Although we have had some issues on our stays we've never complained but our recent stay was the last straw. The room we were given on the 4th floor was ridiculously hot. As soon as we opened the door you could feel the heat hit you. I'm not talking like a little hot like our houses have been during the warm weather, this was sauna hot. The window would only open so far and there was one little desk fan that did nothing. I asked to be moved & I was told no. I asked for an extra fan & was told no. I asked for the window to be opened more & was told no. The reception staff were no help even when I explained that my son had a heart condition and it wasn't safe for him or anyone to be expected to stay in a room that hot. They just kept saying it's due to the hot weather, even though it had cooled down outside when we went. They told me they couldn't open the window further due to it being a legal requirement which is rubbish. There is no law which states that, only guidelines from the HSE so its actually up to the hotel. But the fact I was asking them to due to our situation and was still being told no and telling me it's only 1 fan per room they did nothing to help us when I brought it to their attention. We checked out the same evening ad there's no way we could of slept in that room. We told them when they were leaving but they didn't care. I told them if they can't get a room to a safe temperature then they shouldn't be letting out those rooms and expecting people to stay in them. Now due to this experience we will not be using The Royal in Scarborough ever again. We were treated disgustingly and our welfare was not important to them. I've made a complaint to their head office but still haven't heard anything back which says it all.

Never again. Terrible service. Staff sniffing coke on break. Young girl black/brown hair. Rude staff. Stayed fir a few nights for a works conference. Never again
