The White Swan Inn

We had a very pleasant two night stay over the August Bank Holiday weekend. We’d stayed here before in one of the vintage rooms and loved it so much that we tried to book a similar room this time. However, being two friends, we needed a twin room and the only available twin for our dates was one of the hideaway rooms which are not inside the main building. The hideaway room was a good size with extremely comfortable beds and a decent en suite, although I wasn’t keen on the Bramley toiletries. We also didn’t like the chair with wooden arms; it seemed so silly to have a chair with arms so high they prevented the chair from tucking under the built-in unit. Because our room had been configured as a twin, the floor space was already reduced without a chair sticking out! It’s fair to say that the room didn’t quite float our boat in the way that the vintage room had done two and a half years before. For a couple of reasons, I didn’t enjoy staying away from the main building. The weather was unpredictable and, even though brollies were provided in our room should the heavens open (they didn’t as it happened!), rushing into breakfast and back to the room afterwards, before any rain started, wasn’t conducive to a relaxing breakfast experience. Also, we didn’t find the gravelled driveway in front of the hideaway rooms the easiest for walking along and certainly not when unloading / loading luggage and carrying it between the car and the room (we weren’t able to unload near our room, due to other guests wanting to drive past). Just the same as our previous stay, we found all the staff to be so helpful, smiling and polite. Breakfast was a true delight, both in terms of the high quality of the food, plenty of choice, use of local produce and the lovely waiting staff, especially Sarah who accommodated my request for plenty of hot milk with my decaf coffee. Staff were also very helpful and posted my diary, after I carelessly left it behind in the room. Thank you for that! Despite the hideaway room not ticking the boxes for us, we did have a lovely stay and really wouldn’t hesitate to return (vintage room only, though!).

Perfect inn in the middle of town everything was amazing hospitality food and service was perfect

We wanted to go to this part of the UK and found this hotel. What a find !!!. The greeting was superb, the room in the old part, a very short walk from the main property was excellent. The restaurant was gorgeous, the food superb and all prepared on site, the people serving the food to the table were exceptional and in my view fully worth the cost. Excellent.
