Hedley House Hotel & Apartments

We booked a last-minute trip away for my birthday and hadn't realised it was one of the busiest weekends of the year, so everywhere seemed to be fully booked. Thankfully, that's when I discovered this gem of a hotel. The hotel is less than a 10-minute walk from the town centre and offers convenient off-street private parking, the perfect location. There is an additional charge of £18 per day for parking, but we felt this was reasonable overall considering local parking costs. I also found that booking directly through the hotel's website was cheaper than using third-party booking sites, and the room-only rate represented excellent value for money. Our room was clean, modern, and nicely decorated, plus the bed was comfy and I liked the view from our window. It came with all the amenities I needed, including a hairdryer, kettle, and even a fan, which was much appreciated plus ample storage space. The staff were friendly, welcoming, and always happy to help throughout our stay. The hotel itself is on a nice quiet street, beautifully decorated and maintained, and we enjoyed using the spa during the one-hour session we booked. We chose to have breakfast elsewhere each morning because there are so many fantastic cafés and bars nearby, so I can't comment on the quality of the food. However, the hotel does appear to offer all the usual breakfast options, from a full English to a continental selection. The only aspect that let the hotel down slightly, in our opinion, was the additional charge for the spa facilities (£15-£20 per person for only a one-hour session). From our experience at other hotels/ bnbs, spa access is included for guests, and we did not feel this was made particularly clear enough when booking. I appreciate the maintenance needed for upkeep but we think it would be a nice touch if guests received one complimentary hour of spa access during their stay and then paid for any additional sessions as a compromise. Charging guests extra for this just did not feel right. That said, we still decided to book a spa session as it was my birthday, and after a day of exploring and lots of walking, it was the perfect way to soothe our aching legs. The booking process was simple, and the staff accommodated us with no issues. There was a nice sized jacuzzi that can hold about 12 people, a small sauna that could hold about 2 to 4 people and a little cold plunge tub and outdoor shower and some outdoor seating. The other tiny detail I would comment, is it would be nice if there was a little basket to put our wet towels, as i did not know what to do with them when i was finished and I didn't want to just leave them anywhere especially when everything is so well maintained. Overall, we're very pleased we found this hotel. We would happily stay here again and would confidently recommend it to others. In our opinion, it is every bit as good as, if not better than, many of the larger hotel chains.

We were visiting York for the day & wanted somewhere to stay near the centre with off street parking but with a more personal service than the large hotel chains. Hedley House looked perfect, the online booking was easy, the staff were lovely on arrival & our room was fab. After a cracking day in York centre, which is just a 10 minute walk away & awesome night at the Barbican we headed back to our room & slept like babies. We headed down for breakfast & enjoyed a cracking full English. We’ll definitely be back & will try the spa next time. Thanks again for a lovely stay team HH.

We stayed for a week at this delightful guest house in York. The location is perfect: close to the rail station and city center. The room was nice and the staff was exceptional! Staff was friendly and efficient. I would love to stay here again.
