Judges Court Hotel

Amazing location and quiet. Spacious rooms. They remembered everything hooks, yummy coffee with sweet treats. And my favorite oversized towels. The room was light and bright. I appreciated the light over my bed for reading. Staff was very helpful.

I purchased a holiday at Judges Court with my wife, to celebrate my 70th birthday as we had never been to that hotel before, so was looking forward to it. How disappointed we were when we arrived, young girl behind the reception desk did not welcome us, only asked for our name then handed us our key and pointed us to our room. Our room was big enough for us, but the wardrobe was just cheap B & Q or Ikea and the bed, that was very comfortable, thankfully as the single chair that was in the room, well my wife did sit on it and immediately got off it as she thought it was going to collapse, so our time in the room was spent sitting on the bed. It was the warmest weather in August 36 degrees and our room window opened to a beer garden belonging to a pub next door, which again was a big let down for us, especially with the hot weather, for privacy we had to close the very heavy curtains, which only made the room warmer. there was a large fan sitting on the floor, so switched it on, god it was loud and needed to put the volume up to hear the television, but did not want to put it up too load for fear of upsetting other guests, what a start to our 3 day stay at this old hotel in the heart of York. The bathroom, well to enter it you had to go down a very narrow step, and putting the lights on started another fan in there, that noise was worse, but did find information on the single piece of paper in our room letting us know how to switch it off, fortunately I could reach, but my wife could not. The only way she could have reached it, would have been by standing on the unsafe chair, and god knows what could have happened if she did. There was a get up and go breakfast, which we knew about before we went to the hotel, but know one told us where to go and get it, so on our first morning I went to the reception to enquire, and was handed two paper bags with our room number on, if we had not asked, we would not have received it. I could go on, but I've let the company that we purchased the holiday from, which is called Itison, know of our disappointment, which was sad to do as we have bought many things from them and never been disappointed, like we were at Judges Court in York. We felt we would have been happier in the Travelodge, that we have stayed in before in Micklegate, York, at least the staff at all Travelodge's make you feel welcome, and do interact with you, no one at Judges did that, not even when we checked out. It was a reduced rate that we paid, all I can say, thank god we did not pay the full price. Photographs that we viewed, were nothing like the room that we were allocated, nothing close. Poor

stayed in one of the rooms in an enclosed courtyard. It was basic but fine and nice to have aircon. Fantastic location, nice outdoor area for drinks, food and people watching. The interior public areas of the hotel are nice, lots to look at and some nice features. The staff that we encountered were lovely, without exception. Friendly and efficient. Noticed quite a few bad reviews but in all fairness I think the pricing is fair, yes a bit of work might be needed here and there but the location is perfect if you’re wanting a base to explore the centre of York. The price reflects this. Good breakfast, the ginger shot was grand! parked in a long stay near the river, had to sell my children to pay for that
