THE GROVES

A lovely stay at York b&b. I was going to the Barbican for a concert and it was in a good location near to the centre. A 15 minute walk into the centre but bus service quite poor. My room was lovely and clean and had everything I needed. The vegan breakfast I chose for ethical reasons was good and the kitchen and restaurant staff were lovely. I would like to thank Vicky at reception who was fantastic in explaining everything and was very friendly and helpful. I would definitely stay here again and can’t understand some of the possibly picky reviews on here.

The building where reception is and you eat is lovely so I’m supposing the rooms would be good but we were put in what I can only describe as a building at the bottom of the drive . It had a dehumidifier that was very noisy a light in the bathroom that didn’t turn off and generally not a nice place was glad we only stayed for one night

We had the deluxe double (allegedly) we was in the annex at the back next to the car park. The room was a disgrace it had a musty smell, a stained carpet, a mattress that you could feel the springs through, a pillow that was like it had been filled with sand, many tiles in the bathroom were cracked, the shower was really poor. Basically the room needed a proper deep clean and re decorating and the bathroom does too. You have a one and a half hour window for breakfast, we arrived and had to wait 15mins to be seated and then an extra 45mins to recieve our breakfast which was very average. We wrote an email to complain before we left and got a response 12 hours later saying they wasn't a le to deal with it and will pass it on to someone who can, that never happened. So we wrote another saying we're still waiting on a response for the first email. I would never stay here again could and should have gone to Churchills just round the corner or probably just anywhere else....you live and learn!
