The Lighthorseman

What a beautiful B&B, had an amazing stay there with my husband. Staff were great too. Room was lovely and clean with a four poster bed. Breakfast was really good. We will definitely be returning.

We booked here for its lovely location (River just 250 yards away), bus stop feet away and it was so reasonably priced! Greeted warmly by Dan, we were allocated room 6, which was exceptionally clean and comfortable with 2 single beds, kettle, coffee, and tea making facilities and biscuits. The en suite had a shower AND bath. We had a drink in the downstairs bar and supper, both of which were excellent. Breakfast at £12.50 pp was amazing! Fruit, cereals, yoghurts, and juice followed by a full English (sausage, eggs, bacon, black pudding, mushrooms, tomatoes, and beans! alongside toast honey, jam, and marmalade on the table with pots of tea to wash it down with! Built in 1870, it's still full of character, and if you are lucky, you may get to see or hear the spirits that allegedly roam the corridors!

A simply wonderful stay. From the moment you enter you breathe history, warmth and authenticity: a very special place. The property has a fantastic in-house pub, with a great selection of beers, and a billiards room perfect for relaxing and spending pleasant leisure time. An added value that makes your stay even more unique. The breakfast was exceptional, freshly prepared by the owner: incredible eggs, so good that... I still dream of the night! You feel all the care and attention for the guests. The owner is an amazing person, kind and caring. Being the Christmas period, he gave us a very welcome surprise with a room upgrade, assigning us an accommodation with kitchen. A really careful gesture, considering that on Christmas Day many places are closed: we felt welcomed and pampered. The location is perfect: a few minutes walk from the center of York, reachable with a pleasant walk, ideal for starting the sightseeing without stress. York is a wonderful city and this accommodation made our stay even more unforgettable. We would return without hesitation and recommend it to anyone who wants to live an authentic, warm and atmospheric experience.
