The Royal Hotel Scarborough

After a weekend with family I feel I must write this review, on first impression it looked impressive, although dated. After booking in we were give a key card for room, when we found room it was a key door not card. Asked a member of house keeping to let us in the room, when we looked round, bathroom had a puddle round the bath, I asked them to sort, the response was to smother bathroom with bleach making it unbearable to breath, there was a plastic bag covering smoke alarm, window filthy and unable to open,. We requested a different room, we were given a card for room 600, one we assumed would be on 6th floor, except there isn’t a 6th floor, after extensive searching, return to reception, were escorted by reception staff who took us to 2nd floor, she couldn’t find the room, returned to 1st floor and walked up two flights of stairs before we found room. Dinner on Friday night was more than disappointing, Breakfast on Sunday was an absolute shambles, long queues waiting for food to be refreshed as they ran out of majority of hot food, milk, cereal etc. only 2 members of staff were completely run off their feet, only one chef, for a dinning room of possibly 300 people, I would suggest that a full review of staff training in all areas from reception to housekeeping . A thorough investigation into the cleanliness of the whole hotel be done, as dust and cobwebs were visible in all areas, both rooms and public areas. Whilst I understand it’s an old building, and maintenance is an issue, perhaps close off certain areas at a time and deep clean would help.

We didn't stay in the hotel just used the spa. Well the word spa in this matter is a little tricky . Yes it was cheap but the service was bad . Everything was old and broken there . The swimming pool is very small . The steam room was old smelly and mouldy everywhere. Just bad bad bad.

Came to stay for a special birthday , service was good , downstairs entertainment room bar area lovely , where the lift from the road is looks likes seagulls live in it , certainly not a good impression, as for the room 303 a disgrace bathroom area not bad at all , as for curtains filthy rotting windows something needs to be done if you think it’s acceptable
