Hopping Hare

Amazing experience We visited on a busy sunday, we were hoping to be sat in the restaurant but that was full so we were shown to a table by the doors leading to the garden, we were served by a lady with blond hair who despite being very busy was very attentive and polite throughout our order was taken promptly and came out in good time, some of the food was delivered by a younger girl with light brown/blond hair who was not as good some plates were banged down on the table and we had to ask our original server for horseradish as it was not brought over by the younger girl, after we asked her, a request she didn’t seem happy to carry out, i think her name was annie, however this did not detract from our experience as we only saw her that once the older staff members, especially our waitress, i believe to be a manager are so much better than the younger ones who seem more interested in standing talking rather than looking after and engaging with customers, we will return for this reason, the younger ones only seem to be around at busier times The food was delicious and well presented on hot plates

We initially came for lunch after a recommendation having only ever used here for accommodation for our guests. The service for lunch was slow and the actual lunch was extremely mediocre and barely warm. 6 other tables of various sizes were served before us, having sat down after us and we had only had a bread board beforehand. From sitting down to main course was over an hour’s wait! Staff were friendly enough, when we saw them!

Very disappointed with this experience. We choose The Hopping Hare due to the reviews here and the menu on their website. Two of our party do not eat red meat, so we checked the menu on their website before choosing the Hopping Hare for our reunion. The actual menu when we arrived was very different but it was too late to go elsewhere at that point. The menu shows roasted duck, baked Cod, tripadvisor shows amazing pictures of these dishes. In reality there were very few choices for non-red meat eaters, only chicken and some butternut squash dish. Spinach was full of sand, crunching against your teeth when eating it, not a pleasant experience, the chicken breast was very white and moist but despite having herbs sprinkled on one side, it tasted very bland and of nothing really. The waiter laughed when we questioned the menu on the website and said the website only showed a sampler menu not the actual menu. He said the duck and the cod were once on the menu but not now and the menu changes weekly. In which case in our opinion that should be clear and updated. The atmosphere is OK, service was excellent, and the location good, easy to park and get to, but for us the food was a real disappointment and we won’t be visiting again.
