The Crown And Thistle

We stayed at the hotel for two nights having bought it via BuyaGift (which I wouldn’t recommend). You need to be aware that the car park has a different post code to the hotel, otherwise it can be a bit difficult to find. It is also quite small, so it’s a gamble if there is space. Once parked it’s not very clear where the reception entrance is from the car park and it is easy to go into the bar area instead and incorrectly register your car there instead of the hotel, which can cause problems an result in a possible overstay ticket ( which the hotel will sort out for you). The staff are very warm and welcoming from the onset. Our room was a little difficult to find as, being an old building, it’s full of stairs and corridors, although signage is quite good once you’ve cued into it. Unfortunately we had scaffolding up outside our room and painters on it in various places for the first day, so it disintegration feel very private….but they’ve done a great job of freshening the exterior up. Our bed was comfortable, the facilities are excellent……shampoo, conditioner, body wash, etc as well as various coffees and teas and a coffee machine with pods, water and biscuits and iron and board etc. very impressive. The room was quite warm although an air conditioner was provided. Unfortunately we can’t use it, but as we spent most time out it was only uncomfortable at nighttime. A few things that would make an improvement to the room would be somewhere to hang the towel in the bathroom once used as there was wall space. Sadly the bathroom was extremely tiny with a bifold door needed to get access. When using the sink you were actually having to stand in the doorway and needed to shut the door to get past the sink to get into the shower, which is also very tiny. The shower is very powerful, but because it’s a small space, there isn’t any wiggle room and I often lost my squirt of shampoo or conditioner from my hand when trying to get it from container to my head! There is also space to put a small settee or two small chairs at the end of the bed to making viewing the TV more comfortable in the evening after a busy day out. The wardrobe would also benefit from having an LED light in it as it’s quite dark inside. The food in the hotel is very good. We ate an evening meal which was reasonably priced, although I found the breadcrumb on my chicken quite excessive and tasting a little burnt. The two morning breakfasts were also very good, with a good selection and choice of food. All serving staff were very pleasant although local knowledge was not as good as I would expect. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a few days away.

What a find. Fab greeting on arrival. After walking through the maze of corridors found my room which was a delight. Had everything you could want. Espresso machine, tea, coffee biscuits, also aircon, beautifully comfy bed and shower with all the gels and soft towels and soft lighting. Would I come back...you bet

On a boating holiday. Just walked in . with my dog. Owners were very accommodating friendly and polite. Breakfast was fantastic. Highly recommended.
