Red Lion Hotel

From arriving to leaving the service was fantastic. The room was very clean and comfortable and ready for us on Sunday morning when we arrived after our 100k Thames path challenge Special mention to Patrick who saved the day by organising travel for us after our train was cancelled and because of this we made our connection home.

Poor breakfast , no fridge in room & milk said refrigerate after opening, one receptionist was very abrupt, no hotel details in the room or any info about the town , lift broke down with us in it & no emergency lights so thank goodness we had a mobile, room was very clean which was a plus, overall an average stay.

Not quite as luxurious as I would have hoped. Most hotels at this level and priced this high provide a Nespresso machine in the rooms. Here all that was provided was an electric kettle, instant coffee sachets, tea bags and a chocolate. No biscuits or other treats. The advertised "bottled water" was just that, a bottle of water that may have been, and hopefully was, filled from a filtered water cooler. However, the biggest disappointment was Sunday breakfast. Every other day breakfast was chosen from a menu which included things like a Full English, Eggs Benedict, Eggs Royale, Avocado toast with poached eggs, etc. On Sunday it was a pretty miserable "buffet" with the egg option of scrambled (probably the powdered kind, sat in a large catering tray, far from appealing) and fried eggs, also in a catering tray although by 9am that tray was empty with rather a long wait for a re-fill. Every day but Sunday croissants were available but by 9am Sunday there were none left. Honestly, it felt like a canteen rather than an elegant hotel. Just about all the servers in the breakfast room seemed pretty novice too.
