The Buttery Hotel

A comfortable & prime location as a base for exploring Oxford. The rooms are spacious and comfortable with air conditioning and a mini fridge. Everything is walkable from the hotel. Would definitely stay here again. Note there are only stairs, no lift, however reception is attended 24/7 and staff are lovely and helpful.

We came for one night, expecting a lovely room in a hotel in the centre of town… when you walk in, you see that they’re a four star hotel on the door, this is far from correct. For starters this isn’t a hotel it’s a guest house, which is fine, however you would expect them to put effort into the quality of the rooms as this is all they offer. Sadly this isn’t the case. The room was extremely basic and cleaned to a basic level too. The bed and sheets seemed clean, however the skirting boards and walls were filthy. Bathroom looked clean on first impressions but toilet was dirty and there were lots of hairs in the showers as well yellowing around shower, sink and toilet. Floors were super creaky so it was noisy at night as you heard everyone going to rooms. Big gap under door too so light crept in and we were given an old school key to get in and out which didn’t feel safe at all. Overall, it would have worked well if it was a cheaper price, however this is not the standard for a £123 ‘4 star’ room at all.

My room was large and had an electric kettle, tea and coffee; the bed was comfortable. I appreciated that the bathroom had room for me to place my toiletries, and I enjoyed their products as well. The staff was very kind, and while I was willing to take my heavy bag (in Europe for a month and going hiking so had hiking gear) up the stairs, I much appreciated the staffer doing it for me. With the windows closed, I didn't notice any street noise, and I loved the location.
