Unfortunately, our experience with The Lovat Hotel was extremely disappointing.
A maintenance issue meant the hotel could no longer honour our confirmed booking. Whilst I appreciate that unforeseen issues can happen, what was unacceptable was the complete lack of communication. We were never informed that our room was unavailable and only discovered there was a problem because I happened to phone the hotel myself a couple of days before our stay to ask about check-in. Had I not made that call, we would have travelled to Perth expecting to check into a confirmed reservation with no idea that our booking could not be honoured.
We were then instructed by the hotel to contact Expedia ourselves to sort out the relocation. That call resulted in a £69 telephone charge, and despite explaining this repeatedly, the hotel declined to reimburse us or offer any goodwill gesture for the costs we incurred while trying to resolve a problem that we had no part in creating.
The relocation process itself was chaotic, with contradictory information being provided by the various companies involved, and it took weeks of emails simply to establish what had happened.
The one positive was the receptionist who was polite, responsive and genuinely tried to assist. She kept us updated, contacted Expedia on our behalf and did what she could within the limits of her role. My criticism is not directed at the front-line staff, but at the way the situation was managed and the lack of ownership shown by management.
Ultimately, the hotel only managed to accommodate us because a room became available after we contacted them a second time.
I understand that unexpected problems occur, but the way this was handled fell well below the standard I would expect from a hotel. Guests with confirmed bookings should not have to discover for themselves that their reservation cannot be honoured, nor should they be left out of pocket trying to resolve the hotel's booking issues.

you get what you pay for, cheapest hotel in Perth - 15 min walk into town. it is very much in need of a refurb, ageing carpets, damage to wall paper etc. i hads an economy single room, it was just that but it was clean. they adevrtise free parking but that is to end in August when they will charge. travelodge perth central is a better bet

A lovely stay, spacious bedroom and a lovely restaurant. Free carpark . Friendly staff and very reasonable for the price. Decor could do with a spruce up and no tea or coffee in rooms but free bottles of water.
Bed very comfy and a plus for me is thick blackout curtains.
