The Lerwick Hotel

The Lerwick Hotel is in real need of some decoration BUT the facilities are fine and the hotel team are great. The sea view room we had was okay. The view itself was breathtaking as was the view from the restaurant. The standard of food in the evening is very good but the breakfast was just about okay.

Visiting Lerwick, we booked for a Sunday carvery and didn’t stay in the hotel. The restaurant is modern and well laid out. Sadly the one great feature of the restaurant, the fantastic view, was obscured by Venetian blinds! The carvery is not a permanent fixture and is served on Sundays. I’ve no idea what the rest of the menu is like, but the carvery selection was rather sad. Broccoli, creamed new potatoes, cauliflower cheese and a rather strange stuffing but not a carrot in sight. The tiny piece of beef looked like it came from Tesco, a small whole chicken and a rather dry looking joint of gammon. I opted for the beef. To be fair, it was cooked ok, though a little fatty around the edges. The roast potatoes were white and rather uncooked. Sadly the Yorkshire puddings were soft and rather soggy. It was edible but for £23 per person, well over charged. It all lacked heat and was just warm. As it had only been open for 20 minutes, that didn’t bode well. I did hear people complimenting the food but as foodie I wasn’t impressed. Our plates were whisked away quickly and no offer desert was made. I don’t think I would have bothered anyway. £56 for two meals and two drinks is not a bad price but sadly the food did not live up to it. I’m sure there must be better options for a Sunday lunch in Lerwick.

Have often been here, but last night's meal was possibly the best I've ever had, the scallop starter and Main were an absolute triumph. Easily worth five stars for the food alone, thank you
