Best Western Limpley Stoke Hotel

I like this hotel. It is set in a lovely location with gorgeous views of the valley. It has no pretentions and presents itself as a comfortable, clean and welcoming place to stay. The staff are friendly and attentive too. It was lovely leaving behind the madness of Bath in the Summer to drive out to Limpley Stoke to enjoy the views and peace of the hotel. The Terrace Bar is such a nice place to have morning coffee or an evening drink looking over the valley. As many reviewers have pointed out, the bedrooms could do with upgrading but I can understand why this hasn't happened given the hammering of the hospitality industry and resultant financial difficulties for businesses. As they are, the bedrooms are still comfortable and very clean. Besides, being selfish about it I'm sure a completely refurbished hotel in this location would become far more expensive and it would probably lose some of its charm

This looks a really nice hotel in a great location. We were booked for a one night stay at the Leigh Park hotel, a sister hotel but transferred to Limpley Stoke on the day of arrival as they had had a power cut and were closed .Fully understand as these things happen. It wasn't handled very well and I have emailed the hotel about this and am awaiting their response. Arriving at reception they had booked us into a standard double instead of a superior double I had paid extra for. Due to the situation no equivalent rooms were available so we were given a standard room. Again fully understand . They gave us a credit note to match what they said was the difference in price of the rooms, to be spent in the bar. It was presnted to us as though we were getting something extra but it was just our money they were refunding to spend in the hotel.The room itself was very small, and the view they made a lot of was mainly of the car park, and the window was small. Looking on the website the rooms look grander. I also checked to see what we would pay for an equivalent stay in the room we were given and it was cheaper than I ended up paying. I felt I was fobbed off and short changed and ultimately out of pocket. The hotel itself has so much potential. The room we did have was comfortable and clean but very small. The stair carpets were very dirty. The terrace was a nice place to sit and we managed to avoid the smokers. Breakfast was poor. All of the natural yoghurts were 4 days past their best before date.There was a bowl of fruit which tasted as though it was tinned with some fresh apple added, but no individual apples or bananas. Bread was standard ready sliced Coffee was awful and came out of a flask. There was no menu or anything to indicate if there were options for say porridge or eggs not scrambled. There were quite a lot of foreign tourists in the hotel and I felt embarrased to think that this is what was presented as an English breakfast. Premier Inn serve a far superior breakfast as do many other 3 star hotels.

Stayed the night for a wedding. Beautiful, tranquil location with large terrace overlooking the Avon valley. Staff friendly and helpful. Relaxed atmosphere. Clean, comfortable rooms although decor a little tired - could do with refurbishment. Meals OK. Hard to get hold of reception by phone before stay.
