Shieldhill Castle

We popped in for some lunch on 1 May 2026 and found that the hotel was closed for refurbishments. When enquiring about when it would re-open we were told it would likely be in the Autumn (2026).

In May 2025 I purchased a £100 voucher as a gift for my sister and brother-in-law's 25th Wedding Anniversary. They have been unable to redeem it as the restaurant subsequently closed and I understand that the venue only does private events now. We have tried to make contact via e-mail and phone but have had no response. Very poor customer service

The rooms were nice and comfortable. The food was excellent. The greatest asset were the staff. Jane (the owner) is an extremely nice person and goes above and beyond to accommodate people. She was very flexible. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because I found the rooms a bit difficult to walk to due to a health issue. However, this wouldn't be a problem for most people, so please don't be put off by that. Recognising this issue Jane arranged breakfast to be delivered to our rooms and brought us water in the afternoon. As I didn't feel like a large meal on the second night she arranged for me to have something lighter. All of the staff were incredibly nice and helpful. This was the second time I had been here and I remember the great service from last time too, even though it was 4 years ago.
